Museum of History In Granite

History museum
I am a volunteer tour guide several days throughout the week. I assure visitor's an amazing personal overview of this Museum of History engraved and etched in granite! If you love history, humanity through-out the ages and art, this facility is for you! Especially now during covid as the Museum is all outdoors!Well worth the visit for families with children, Seniors looking to recall historical events and Singles contemplating getting married in the Church on the Hill of Prayer.Stop and be welcomed for your visit!

100+degrees, no one present to give a tour. An aerial tour would be awesome if there was something else there to see. Population of 2 in Felicity, CA! Closestbathroom is a portable potty at gas station on exit. You can see it from exit. $5donation on integrity! Center of The World!!! It was too hot to walk along granite wall. Unique!

Oh the weird & wonderful things you find in the desert. This exhibit is part of "The Official Center of the World" compound, which also houses a section of stairs from the Eiffel Tower, the Arm of God sundial that points past a pyramid and toward a small church at the top of a hill, reached only by a long set of stairs.Along the route are numerous (and growing) granite carvings that tell of the history of Humanity, American history, US Military (Marines & Navy) and French, religious history and much more.Quirky but something interesting to do.

Had a great time at this wonderful museum. The staff was very helpful and gave us a tour around the grounds. We actually met the founders last week in Mexico while waiting to cross the border back into the US. Highly recommend stopping. It’s only seven miles from Yuma and surrounded by the beautiful desert.
Guy V — Google review
An amazing road side attraction. Sadly, the pyramid was locked so we weren’t able to actually stand in the center of the world. It’s a quick and easy side trip off the freeway coming or going to CA or AZ on Hwy 8.
Jill B — Google review
This is an odd place. We paid $8.00 to get a certificate that we visited the official center of the world. It was a busy day - and they only had one guy working the gift shop. They make you watch a video and participate in a wishing ceremony. The history in granite is odd. The video says it’s intended to provide historical information for the far distant humans to read. It seems a little like one persons view is what in history is important. There’s a section about our diets including information about how many hamburgers the average human eats.

This place was absolutely amazing. So much History and energy. It's a beautiful photo OP spot and there's a lot to absorb! I loved it

Truly a hidden gem in SE California! I was pleasantly surprised by visiting this place! So many panels to read! I ended up buying books so I could concentrate later on all of the content. If you appreciate history and facts as well as a unique experience you must stop here, the center of the world. Read up on this via their website as well as read the Wikipedia page. I doubt there is a place like it anywhere in the world.
Ann M — Google review
Pretty cool. Some amazing historical facts about just about anything you can imagine. They keep adding more information so it could easily be an annual event to read more. We were there about 2 hours and saw/read about 10% of it.
Wendy W — Google review
Lots of history to read, staff are friendly and helpful. Hidden gem in the Yuma area that you may not have known was there. Phone cameras can capture sun rays hitting the pyramid at mid day which makes for great pictures.
VPlay — Google review
Plan on spending several hours if you want to actually read all of the history around this place. Everything you see there is all carved with a Dremel and then white paint is added to make it pop. The chapel has like 57 stairs to climb, however very beautiful view from the top awaits. At the end they give you a certificate to use for your future visits.
Sarah C — Google review
Very interesting exhibit. Depending on how many panels you read, you will spend one to three hours walking around. We arrived after 3 pm but if you go earlier, definitely bring sunblock, a hat and some shades!

It was very interesting, Employees were friendly and informative, and the young lady was a sweetheart and walked with me and took some photos and got me started out (they also have a tour I declined)So you walk along the plaques that are engraved beautifully, read about our history, famous artwork, a church on a hill at the end, a maze (3 circles) and more I didn't get to ( this visit) I believe on our armed forces and parachuting? Which they do they do there once a year. I was there for about 2 hrs, I got a bit burnt in December so I would not do this in the heat/ hot months. ..... and a pyramid over the plaque that says it's the center of the Earth.....Cute gift shop, & you get a certificate so you can get in free in the future. It was pretty cool, I'm glad I went!

Celebrating the year with a visit to the open-air museum "History in Granite." This idea was started by Jacques-André Istel, a French immigrant, 20 years ago and has not yet been finished. Located in the city of Felicity, CA, 15 or so miles from Yuma, AZ, it was created for future generations. Using only red Granite, which is durable, he has taken on the task of capturing the history of humanity in detail. Only 30% finished, it is a unique experience to be there. Points of interest: 1. The arm of Michelangelo's creation points to True North and is the starting point. 2. The Pyramid is the Official Center of the World. 3. The Chapel on the Hill. 4. The Granite Walls engraved with the history of humanity. Truly an "Unusual Experience."
Pablo V — Google review
It cost $10 to walk around and go in the maze. It was 98° so we chose to skip the fee and exploring but I’m sure it would be fun for kids to do the maze.
Shelley G — Google review
Interesting must stop right off the highway. I spent a little over an hour there. You start with an introductory video explaining how this came to be then your tour guide will take a few minutes with you showing you some of the highlights, snapping a few photos for you if you would like, and then you will explore the grounds on your own. So much information about the world around us here captured on the stone it’s like everything you ever learned (or didn’t) about history is documented in granite.
Kevin W — Google review
We had a lovely time. Worth the time and money. The staff went above and beyond expectations. They were welcoming and knowledgeable. Don’t believe the weird hype on-line, it’s a fun activity for all ages.

This site is definitely one to see. Still growing in the artwork etchings, but amazing what has been completed. The admission is for the season, so I hope we are able to go back. Many facets from the creation of the World are shown. Having the nativity made our Christmas season visit extra special.

Salvation Mountain is a distinctive and offbeat attraction located on the way to Los Angeles. This quirky landmark features a mound made of adobe, adorned with vibrant religious folk art. Created by Leonard Knight, the project is free to visit and allows visitors to walk up the mountain, as long as they remain on the yellow brick road. There are restrooms and shaded areas available for those who want to explore this unique destination.
Seen this in the movie, "Into the Wild" and put it on my list of must see. Visiting the high desert decided to take a day trip here. Nice drive along the Salton Sea on a paved two lane road. Be sure to gas up, have water, sunscreen and hat. Arrived in the morning and it was already hot. Easy to find, used GPS. There is parking off the road. The area was clean and a port-a-potty on sight was surprising clean and serviced. An on site care taker was friendly and working on maintenance. Information flyers and postcards are available which I loved and took advantage of. A donation box is securely set up and suggested. There was also a selfie shelf to take photos. Genius! You can wander and explore where permitted. Sunset photos would be the best. A California icon that is worth the time.

Weirdest place I've ever been but, I like strange things so I had a great time seeing the different odd things and people. If you're going there don't forget to stop by and see East Jesus. The only thing you may not want to check out is the hot spring I did and there were three people naked in there bathing. Oops!
Valerie M — Google review
Really cool place to visit, and the attached slab city is extremely cool and worth the visit. Only kinda annoying thing is that everyone is trying to sell you something and the salvation mountain itself (as you may be able to guess based on the name) is very god-y. It really is an extremely impressive work of art in an incredibly unconventional spot, but it is always but and the road in is terrible.

Beautiful landmark everyone should see once in their life. Friendly folks working there who answered all of my questions. It's free to come check out, but they rely on donations for upkeep/maintenance... So donate to them, it's the right thing to do.

We were invited to go there on Thanksgiving friday. It was a unique place to see for the first time for sure. But there was some kind of junk yard across this place, not too far from it.

A very interesting place to visit. A lot of local historical value . A lot of it was shut down but still a very interesting place to visit. Kind of far out but if you close to Palm Springs or El Centro it might be worth the drive over. Good photo op.

Impressive labor of love. The clay and brilliant colors are pretty dazzling although be aware that parts are closed so you can't walk along the entirety of it any more. Road there is pretty bumpy so be prepared for the experience of thinking you're lost. The host is super friendly and you'll likely see some locals from Slab City on the way.

Landmark of this area! How can one person devote his life for this amazing space. I respect all his efforts and contributions. Very colorful and meaningful. Just be careful not to destroy this place as a tourist. Although there should be continuous reinforcement work, the covid ourbreak disturbed it. Now this landmark is a little bit broken.

Beautiful place with wonderful energy. Amazing to see one of a kind art, a real labor of love.Free, donations very welcome at designated spots. There was a docent there that was friendly and answered questions. So glad this treasure was still there to be witnessed.Suggest sunhats/sunscreen, bring own water. Port-a-potties on site.

You won't regret this visit. Beautiful & enlightening. Truly a remarkable place, hidden gem in the desert. The people are nice & welcoming. Please bring donations (especially paint to preserve the mountain & art). Don't forget to stop by East Jesus & their the local gift shops. Help spread the message: "GOD IS LOVE" 💖💖💖

A bit out of the way, up a long, bumpy dirt road... You see some of Slab City on the way though. Beautifully painted mountain, vehicles. Money donated goes to the cats of the area, so I was quick to toss in some cash!

Visited in April 2015. A truly amazing and unique place that left me inspired. Bit of history: Leonard Knight, born on November 1, 1931, was the 4th of 6 children. After serving in the Korean War as a vehicle technician, he embarked on a remarkable artistic journey. Knight’s passion for spreading love and God’s message led him to create something truly extraordinary. In the 1970s, Knight painted “GOD IS LOVE” on a hot air balloon crafted from patchwork materials and a stove. When the balloon failed to take flight, Knight prayed and felt that God’s response was to build a mountain. By 1984, he discovered Slab City, a transient and retiree commune, where he decided to leave a “small monument” made of concrete and paint. Over the next five years, the project grew, and the current Salvation Mountain emerged. Leonard Knight passed away in 2014 but was able to visit his beloved creation one last time in May 2013.

Came during a weekday afternoon in Feb - weather is pretty mild but hot compared to rest of SoCal (can’t imagine what it’s like in summer). Nice colorful monument that can be seen from faraway, definitely worth a visit if at Salton Sea otherwise not sure I drive all the way here. Take some time to explore Slab City while at it. Expect dirt road and eclectic surroundings.

Such a cool place to see. The paints are very bright, so all of the pieces stand out. Would definitely recommend checking this out.

What a beautiful art piece! They have a selfie station here so you can get a lot of pictures with the art. I went on a day after it had rain so you can't really get up close because the piece is very fragile. They also let me send up my drone and take pictures from the sky. It looks beautiful, both on the ground and from above. Definitely recommend to anybody who loves outdoor installation art. The message is also something we all need to hear.

Drove here with friends while on vacation during the early few days of January. We went on a Wednesday during the afternoon. We traveled from Joshua Tree to Salvation, which was around 120 miles. It was an extremely long drive. The roads near Salvation Mountain are very rough despite being paved with asphalt. I would advise taking an SUV or other car that has a bit of ground clearance. We got stuck in the sand near a road-side stand because of this.Despite the setbacks, Salvation Mountain is an impressive place, and the story behind it is very interesting. It's about spreading a message with peace and love. One thing I would also mention is to avoid the bathrooms since they aren't sanitary.

In the vast desert wilderness lies an astonishing art installation. Gratitude to the creators and caretakers who transform ordinary objects into art amidst the barren expanse. Appreciate their expression of love through creativity and beauty. It's a pity one can't climb it due to maintenance, but hopeful for a chance to experience it up close in the future.Parking and public restrooms are available.

This was super cool to see the work that someone put into this. If you like things like this it is worth a stop. Be prepared that the drive out there is different then you might expect. There is a sea of people with pretty rough looking travel homes that live near by. But they leave you alone so, I would still go again and would recommend the experience for others.

There are quite a few stores in here, and there's nothing necessary to complain about. But it's not my preference. I prefer other malls (plazas) in the area. The mall is great and small. It offers a wide range of stores and services. The small size of the mall allows for a more intimate shopping experience. Additionally, the great selection of shops ensures that customers can find everything they need in one place. The mall's size also makes it easy to navigate and find specific stores. Nice stop between San Diego and Yuma. Conveniently located right off the I-8 with ample parking for RVs and Trucks with Trailers. Great place to stretch your legs in a climate controlled space, take a clean restroom break, fuel up ICE vehicles or charge EVs on grounds. Fuel yourself up at the food court next to the Cinemark movie theater with a merry go round, child friendly enclosed play area and a small arcade in the immediate area. Want a drink? Burger joint at the south end of the mall and a bar/club at the gas station. Like most malls today it's seldomly busy with anchor stores that have great seasonal sales (Dillard's & Macy's with many more shops. Pleant of food choices inside, around and across the street. New Mud Pots
Nature & Parks
Volcanoes
I have been here a few times. The last time was in 2016. Fascinating place to see and experience in person. You will need 4WD as it can get muddy in spots. Can be a challenge to find though. Just follow the steam, lol..
Michael M — Google review
These are the old mud pots and a nearby ruin along Davis road including a shot of one of the geothermal power plants showing its relative proximity. The steam is from the power plant, not the mud pots. Unfortunately the road leading to the new mud pots and the Salton Butte Volcano is inaccessible as the tiny lane leading out to the salt flats is marked private property/no trespassing(apparently owned by Imperial Water District).

Unfortunately the roads to get to the mud pots are poorly maintained gravel. You cannot get close enough to the mud pots to see much. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Kiersten S — Google review
Quite a relief to see New Mud Pots being placed here. So many old sites have been ravaged by the vagaries of time. To have new ones in earth tones is a natural wonder. I remember back in 1983 when it was said that the Davis pots would corner the market, and we all know what happened to Davis. For one thing, he said non stick would never catch on. Taught me at least you have to be willing to change.
Allen K — Google review
The directions led to a dead end as far as I could tell. Had a 4WD but couldnt figure out where to take it from here :)
Catherine E — Google review
Could not get anywhere close. All roads and trails were posted and gated. Even though the Red Hill area was deserted with my, I would get caught, so I decided not to risk it.
Theodore W — Google review
You will need a four wheel drive to get to the mudpots, which we did not have. Apperantly there used to be mudpots at Davis and shrimpf intersection, but while we could smell some activity, none of the mud areas were bubbling.
Arvid J — Google review
Since they posted the old mud pots with no trespassing signs these are the only ones you can get to, use Red Hill rd until it ends then head north, use Google Earth to see where they are, if it is wet you'll have to walk, but they are bigger and better than the old mud pots anyway. Mullet Island is a rhyolite lava dome volcano.Red Hill and Obsidian Butte are all part of the volcanic complex and sits on the Imperial Fault and is about 3 to 4 miles south of the San Andreas Fault. If there is a big quake get away from the volcanic zone asap as rhyolite magma always erupts explosively and a big quake could set them in motion. Those close geothermal power plants dotting the landscape are built on a volcanic zone. Although Salton Buttes eruptions are typically small some of those power plants will get trashed and airborne volcanic ash will restrict air travel if the wind blows the wrong way.

1920s-built stone tower with observation deck for desert views, plus a museum & gift shop.
An absolute gem that is just a little off the beaten path. $7 per adult to climb the tower and explore the Boulder park. Great place for kids to blow off some steam in the middle of a long car ride. It is windy and colder as you are on the top of a ridge, so bring a jacket or coat. Clean if spartan bathrooms.
Bert C — Google review
This place is a great little gem. My son and I hung out for almost 2 hours. Most of it was exploring the cave to the back of the tower. The tower has great views of the area. The winds, though, were blowing hard but are not an issue once away from the tower. The tower is a crazy mixture of all sorts of curiosities and is fun to explore. The real fun is the rock caves. My son and I spent about an hour and a half exploring. Just be careful and do not get stuck like me. There are also a few dogs and a peacock living on the property. The current owner is also looking to sell. With enough money, it would make a great airbnb. To go in the tower and cave, you have to get a ticket ($13 for the 2 of us). If you have the time, the rock caves and view are worth the stop.

Neat little stop right off the interstate. They were super friendly, prices are very reasonable, and was overall a cool, fun experience. I'll probably bring the family next time. The view around the mountains is spectacular.
Brenndon M — Google review
The view from the tower is super cool and the boulder climbing is quite fun as well. I’d gone by it on the 8 a number of times, so I’m glad I finally decided to check it out. I definitely recommend making a quick stop.

I stopped by this Desert Tower on my way to Phoenix from SD.I believe this location is part of SD as well. This tower is interesting. It is made out of small boulders alone the I8. I would mistaken this to be a light house if this was near the ocean. Inside, there's a circular near 360 degree window view of the outside. Inside is a small give soft with all kinds of wonderful stuff if you want to bring back a little souvenir. On the outside, there's a boulder park you can walk up to. it's like a little mini caves and tunnels you can go through, but be careful with your steps. There's also a opening with some picnic tables. it's great to just take a breather from the long drive, visit the tower and the boulder park, have some picnic before continuing the long journey.Oh, by the way, the people there are just friendly.Oh, one more thing. there's a donation box outside by the boulder park. Be sure to contribute a few greens for the great people that is keeping the place nice and clean. It cost money to flush your radiator water. you know.

We stumbled across this on a drive from TX to CA. It’s tucked away and a little difficult to find. It has wonderful views, lots of cute dogs, and a neat gift shop. We had a lovely chat with Sam, who also recommended the more scenic Highway 80, which was lovely! There was the option for a paid tour, which we didn’t do. Either way, it’s a great place to get out and stretch your legs.
Kelsey L — Google review
The gentleman who runs the tower is lovely-friendly and helpful. In addition to telling us about the tower and boulder park, he told us about other cool things to visit in the area. Would recommend visiting if your headed out the I8, rather than making this a destination. Gets windy and cold in the spring so bundle up!

Great stop between Arizona and San Diego. Awesome view of the Imperial Valley. Great place to get out stretch maybe have lunch. Picnic tables. This is a private area and the owners are really nice. Cool eclectic shop and fun little cave boulder hike to crawl around in. Keep young kids close. There are cholla cactus and small crevices that kids could find them selves up against. Plan on spending at least a 1/2 hour. Tickets are required to go to the top of the tower and boulder path. Clean bathrooms. If you do not do the Tower or boulder caves, it is free. Consider a donation though.

What a fun stop! The view is awesome, everything is so interesting to look at and the Boulder park was so fun to explore. We had kids aged 5-18 and all of them thought it was really fun.

My wife and I stopped here after passing it a few times before. It was a beautiful day and I knew the timing was right. And it was! The view was awesome, the caves and carvings were fun and there was a lot of cool information. I definitely recommend staying and chatting and enjoying the views.

Great views and fun to browse all the tchotchkes in the shop. Owner was polite and the dogs were adorably friendly.

I really enjoyed my visit to the Desert View Tower. There's an interesting story and a great vibe here. If you like history and unusual architecture, then this place is for you. The tower offers great open air views of the desert from the top. The lower floors are filled with an eclectic and interesting blend of gift shop, bookstore, museum items and other oddities - a authentic roadside attraction. Leave plenty of time to explore Boulder Park and view the carved rock sculptures. In addition to the really nice people that operate the site, you may discover and view the peafowl that roam the grounds. Definitely worth the visit and the bargain price of admission. Don't miss it.
Mick C — Google review
Loved this place, I reviewed it under another name already. We just happened to see it while driving by. We stopped to check it out. The gift shop was closed, I believe because a hurricane was coming. There were people there who lived on the property, either owners or caretakers. They were very nice, let us walk thru the cave/Boulder trail for free (tho I left a donation in the box). They had beautiful well behaved dogs. We saw a couple of peacocks, the guew was awesome and the cave walk and carvings were cool. I am sorry I missed the gift shop, would Def stop again if I was in the area. It was a nice break from driving. I believe you can go in the tower when it's open, but even from the outside it was nice.

Very nice view of the desert but it was a little creepy since we were the only one there, it's like a land lost in time

This is a one-time stop on the way to or from the desert. $10 fee per person to visit. Be sure to see the rock carvings and climb to the top of the tower for a view of the desert and Salton sea.

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is a massive wilderness area that boasts an abundance of hiking trails, wildflowers, trees, shrubs, and cacti. It's considered one of the richest natural-history museums in the nation and features stunning desert vistas that are unmatched in their privacy and beauty. Camping opportunities abound for those seeking a more secluded experience, with plenty of space to explore off the beaten path.
We loved our stay at Blair Valley. We got a beautiful campsite. It is a wonderful time of the year to visit. There is so much to see here. The desert is in full bloom this time of year. Will definitely return.

Beautiful slot - but NO signs as to how long and/or if it was round trip. The state park magazine said 1.5 miles round trip - but it was actually closer to 3 and there were 2 other groups down there trying to figure out if they should turn around or if the trail would loop back. Both ways worked, but there was no sign and no obvious way out.

The most incredible camping imaginable between blue birds, ravens, eagles, hummingbirds, rabbits, beetles, and eternal starry skies. No mosquitos. Hardly any flies. Please keep this area clean for the next person by disposing of cigarette butts, bottle caps, etc.

We saw one of the most breathtaking views of wildflower blooms here! The visitor center is good with a lot of interesting information about the park and its wildlife. Must visit if you are intrigued by desert ecosystems.

I love primitive camping and backpacking in Southern Anza-Borrego. Quiet serene, lots of big boulders and Ocotillos.I used to say the desert was mostly a wasteland, but I've learned so much about life in the desert the past 7 years. From water sources to seeing humming birds and dragon flies. The plants, the animals and the history. There's so much to experience.Avoid Mid June - Mid Sept due to heat. Winter is never too cold.

Drove here as LA was rainy and cold, and it proved to be worth the 3hr drive. Amazing landscape and less crowded.Don't miss wildflowers season in March, canyon trail, the sculptures, and the rocky cactus loop trail. Check photos.

This desert park is so big and diverse with so many things to see and do. The visitor center near Borrego Springs is a must see and the rangers/volunteers there will give you suggestions and directions for whatever your interests.

We had a wonderful excursion at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. It was so delightful to see the dry desert come alive in swathes of bloom as far as the eye could see... all the way to the foothills. A glorious sight. These were grouping of a variety of plants in colors of yellow, white, magenta, orange, and purple. Also, cactus blooming in some areas. The interesting, rusty giant metal sculptures of varying creatures were so fun to see. Make sure your first stop is at the states visitor center to get the scoop on the current bloom sites, the history, reliable maps, botanical display, hikes, and see an interesting film. It will assure you get the most out of your visit.

Nice area, can be warm and a bit breezy, with good roads. There is wonderful visitor center with lots of interesting books and info. It even has an informative short movie and the gift shop. You can buy food or bring a picnic and enjoy the park in the center of town that is dog friendly, has restrooms, and the kids can play.

Always a fun visit! Even better if you drive a high-clearance 4WD vehicle to explore the many trails and slot canyons! Highly recommend.

We went to see the flowers - and we were not disapointed. We skipped the vistor center which was overwhelmed, but as locals we just followed the directions of the rangers who were directing trafic, with calm professionalism depite the chaos all around, and we were not disappointed! I love this State Park and try to go durring the bloom every Feb/ March, phenomenal!

Great place, from the various palm oases to the statuary field (which I will separately rate) and more. And, most of it's free! Note: if you're driving a rental-car company SUV with highway tires, take seriously the off-highway roads with "loose sand" signs.
Steve S — Google review
Since this is the largest state park in California, expect to do a lot of driving. The area is surrounded by mountains and desert floors. There are numerous washes throughout, but there's very few signs from the road to give you a warning where it is. By the time you see the small sign in the wash, you've gone too far and have to turn around. We stayed at Tamerisk Grove CG but probably should've stayed at the Palm Canyon CG due to size limitation. There's also over 500 miles of road for free boondocking with 30-day stay per calendar yearWe did see the Truckhaven Rock area, Font Point overlook, and hiked the Slot Canyon out to the Borrego Badlands. Excellent spots if you have a couple of days. While not part of the park, we did visit almost all of the large sculptures seen around the city of Borrego Springs. We have a 4x4 pickup truck but not high clearance. Recommend it for some of the more technical roads. Most washes were fine with just a 4x4 vehicle. We recommend visiting this park if you happen to be in the area.

Loved our experience here - stayed in the Tamarisk Camp Grounds and explored as much as we could. The State Park is well kept and the visitor's center was a hit too! The flora and fauna are abundant this time of year.Check out the Galleta Meadows if you get a chance. We only saw a sliver of all this area has to offer.

This state park’s wildflower super bloom season is so beautiful and picturesque with the backdrop of the mountains. With the cool breeze, the calming scent of the wildflowers fills the air and soothes the soul. And the metal sculptures add a cool touch to the park, especially the dragon one.

Beautiful park. Drove there to go hike the palm canyon trail, and I can say that the drive itself is worth it even if I had not done the hike. After the sun set, I was able to see the stars very clearly. It was a breathtaking moment as you cannot see a starry sky like this in most cities. This park forever holds a spot in my heart for the experience it gave me and the stars it showed me.

Visiting all of the sculptures is a must! Do watch for scorpions and rattlesnakes in the summer. It’s way too hot in the summer for dogs unless you plan an early morning. It’s considered an International Dark Sky do Milky Way photography is amazing too!

Anza-Borrego State Park is a stunning natural oasis, with a scenic entrance road that sets the stage for its beauty. While the metal sculptures aren't near the visitor center, they're worth the drive along Borrego Springs Road from the Christmas Circle. These whimsical creations add a unique touch to the already captivating landscape, making Anza-Borrego a must-visit destination for nature and art lovers alike.

Galleta Meadows is a unique desert sculpture park located along the Southern California S-3 highway in Borrego Springs. Created by artist Ricardo Breceda, the park features over 130 massive metal sculptures known as "Sky Art." These sculptures include creatures such as elephants, raptors, dinosaurs, mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, serpents, horses, and even a sloth.
Galleta Meadows is an awesome place to visit in Borrego Springs with animal and human sculptures spread across the town and valley. There close to 100 sculptures of animals and humans and it is truly an incredible collection of art sculptures with many appearing life like. Great for photo opportunities and can easily spend a few hours to see and try to find all the sculptures, but well worth it.

A fascinating spot for Milky Way photography. It helps to get a map to find all the sculptures. (Don't get too spooked by the coyotes - they much prefer the jackrabbits.)
Theresa R — Google review
What a fun place to explore and I don't even think we saw everything. I guess there is bunch of different Metal Sculptures thru out Borrego. The dragon one is cool and the scorpion and cricket one is pretty cool. The scorpion you can actually drive up to and some other animals. The dragon..no they have it stringed off but you can walk up close to it and take pics. We drove off to another road and saw a hawk or eagle one and horses. Half a day trip then enjoy the small town they have there.

Loved being able to get up close to most of the sculptures. Some are closed off to vehicles now and it was too hot to walk out to them. Very impressive!

Sculpture in the Meadows run through Borrego Springs both North and South of the roundabout in town. You can drive up to many to get a close view and see the beautiful and detailed works of the artists. This is a must do in the area and worthwhile time spent viewing.

What’s not to like? These sculptures are scattered all over this massive park. You don’t have to see them all, but use them as little stopping points on your way to other things.

“I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the charming town of Borrego Springs. After finishing my activities, I decided to venture out and stumbled upon the enchanting Galleta Meadows Estate. The estate boasts a collection of stunning and one-of-a-kind sculptures scattered throughout the area. It was truly a mesmerizing experience to walk amidst these artistic wonders. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend paying a visit to witness these beautiful sculptures firsthand.”

This is such a neat place! There are many different sculptures spread across the desert. It’s private land but the owner generously allows visitors to come experience the sculptures, and it’s free to visit.

Spectacular metal sculptures all over the place. We only visited 53 while more than 100 should be out there. Some Google Maps coordinates of certain sculptures are not correct. But that is not a real problem, because you will see most of them from a distance!

Lovely little drive (came through Julian entrance). Make sure you bring extra water because it gets HOT! The statues are wonderful to look at. You can google the locations of them all beforehand and screenshot the map since service tends to get lost since this is a remote area in the desert. The dragon is by far the largest sculpture. Some of the sculptures are accessible by walking only since some of the dirt roads have been blocked off to preserve the area. Also, some of the dirt roads are very bumpy with deep holes so make sure you drive carefully or take a 4x4.

Borrego Palm Canyon is a popular spot near Borrego Springs, just 8 minutes away from downtown. It's a great hike for families, but it can get hot, so it's best to visit in the winter, spring, or early morning. The trail is about 3 miles round trip and some sections are still closed due to a past fire. The canyon features flowing water and a desert oasis.
Borrego Palm Canyon is a great trail to hike and see some great scenery, explore a canyon, and see a large oasis. The hike is about 3 miles round trip with a separate optional return trail that leads back to the parking lot. The trail follows a wash up the canyon with a great oasis as a reward as the end. A great trail to hike if visiting Anza Borrego State Park or Borrego Springs. Best to hike in the early morning on hotter days.
Brendan K — Google review
I recently hiked the Palm Canyon dessert trail and had a wonderful experience. The trail is an in-and-out route, culminating in a stunning palm oasis that, while not accessible due to habitat preservation, offers a serene spot to rest and enjoy the surroundings. The best time to hike is in the morning when there are fewer people, allowing for a more peaceful experience. The trail is also very kid-friendly, with easy terrain that even young hikers can manage. Overall, it's a fantastic hike for nature lovers of all ages.
Elias V — Google review
There is a gift shop and snack bar at the parking lot. Adjacent to the parking is an ancient palm grove that has provided for the local native Americans for generations. Several hiking trails lead off into the desert and mountains.

Great hike for the early Spring. Lots of wildlife and flowers. Easy hike with some river crossings and some rock climbing that could be hard for older or handicapped folks.
Terence C — Google review
This trail surprised me. I meandered for a while, finding the trail and then hearing water. Followed the water up. Lots of bouldering and looking down where you step with all the rocks. Many alternate paths, I went up a completely different path than I came down. It's about 1.4 miles to get to the Palm Oasis, took almost two hours roundtrip. In April after a wet winter, there was plenty of water coming down, very pretty. You could still cross the river though which was nice. $10 day pass to park.
Jenny R — Google review
Great easy hike (although a bit long for kids)! All you see is desert and then all the sudden you come across the oasis. It’s amazing!

Great hike! Really neat going deep into the canyon. The geology is more complex than initially thought or seems. Really cool. The alternative route is really special definitely recommend taking that route on way back. We Love this park it always amazes us.

It took us almost two hours there and back again at a moderate pace. Stream crossing twice on the way. Look below your feet for lizards and snakes - we saw a big western diamondback rattlesnake! Look up for bighorn sheep on the rocks. The beauty of palm oasis is unmatched and provides shade. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Open sky restrooms at the parking lot.

Borrego Palm Canyon is a joyful and peaceful hiking spot. The 1.5-mile trail leads to an overlook with views of the post-fire palm recovery. Don't forget to bring enough water; I took 0.75L, but it wasn't sufficient for the dry air and upper 80s temperatures.
Gala G — Google review
An awesome hike for families! Borrego Palm Canyon was beautiful this weekend. It can get really hot so time your adventure in the winter, spring or early in the morning. A sign said it was lambing season (February), but we only spied adult sheep. Bring water and snacks. Our trek was about 3 miles round trip, with some sections of the canyon still closed- due to a fire a few years back. With littles, anticipate about 30 minutes a mile. I was shocked at how much water was flowing down. A true desert oasis! Please note, dogs are not allowed on this trail.

Great hike not too hard or Long. Usually has water and might see some big horn sheep
Chuck L — Google review
One of the best trails in the Anza Borrego SP. It is short, about 3 miles round trip, family friendly, full of beautiful surprises especially in winter. We hiked this trail with our two kids, they spend a lot time playing with the water and rocks. At the end of trail is the palm grove, they seem caught fire but still alive. The creek is full of water and mini waterfalls. I enjoyed this trail so much, highly recommend it.
Shumin G — Google review
We hiked the trail yesterday. It's a beautiful trail and wildflowers are starting to show. Tread mindfully if you decide to get closer to the stream or decide to pause at a rock, they grow around them too. We took the trail that followed the water and had two stream crossings to get to the start of the oasis. We learned from other hikers that there is an alternate trail with no water crossings. We didn't see any bighorn sheep but very much enjoyed the easy hike. Pick up a brochure at the trailhead entrance which will interpret the sights at numbered markers (we forgot to do this) and bring water. It's not a long hike but it's warming up so you will need to stay hydrated :-) We were also glad to have a hand towel and extra socks.

The California Wolf Center is a rural facility dedicated to the recovery and preservation of wild wolves. Visitors can enjoy tours and purchase souvenirs from their gift shop, though booking in advance is typically required. The center's focus on conservation work may justify its initially high cost for some visitors. The organization promotes education and conservancy efforts for this endangered species, making it a worthwhile destination for those interested in wildlife preservation.
Bit expensive on the surface, but we'll worth it once you understand the great conservation work they do. We we very fortunate to be able to just turn up, but you normally have to book. The best part of the whole thing was we hung out chatting to the staff till dusk, and got to hear the wolves howling! That was the Staffs suggestion so very accomadating , seeing as they probably other things to do rather than just talking with me and my son. We are going again today, can't wait.
Simon L — Google review
Awesome! The guide was so informative and knowing the wolves here at the center are of 700 as of September 2024. On the site there are dates and times for tours which are very informative. We were able to be lucky enough to go when they had deer to feed the wolves. We were able to feed the wolves with bison meat balls which is a first and probably a last experience. It’s a place to experience and writing about will not give it justice.

Well worth the money. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave some great information on the conservation efforts to increase wolves in the wild.

Noble endeavor and happy to support the work but I wouldn’t recommend you bring the whole family unless everyone is super into wolves. Not a ton to see or do for $45 a person.

Great experience, did the enrichment tour. Get to spend experiencing different packs of wolves in a natural environment. Tour is informative, time to to take photos videos. Well organized, nice grounds, easy walk, clean facilities, nice little gift shop too. Different types of wolves, overall a great experience. Highly recommend

We did the 1h20 conservation tour and got lucky to get a private tour as no one else had booked (Monday). Our guide was very kind and knowledgeable. It was nice to be guided by someone who actually takes care of the wolves on a daily basis. We appreciated the emphasis on conservation projects, the natural havitat and keeping the animals as wild as possible whilst in captivity. We got to see the wolves very close.

I have a friend who is an animal lover and the wolf is her favorite. I found the Wolf Sanctuary online and thought it would be an interesting and different kind of experience for her birthday. She absolutely loved it! We all did!Katie was our guide, and she was awesome! Very informative and happy to share her experience and knowledge! Javier was our Gator greeter 😊. He met us in the Gator 🛺 and escorted us up to the handicap parking. Then he cashed us out at the end of our tour in the gift shop. He was great! We loved the education and the peek in at the wolves. We will go back!

It’s small but wonderful what they’re doing and how they are doing it. If you’re expecting an interactive experience where you touch them, this isn’t the place - they are trying to keep them ready to make new wolves for the wild!

What an amazing experience! Our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. She helped us with my accommodations for accessibility. And the tour was so cool. Loved learning about all the wolves! They are so beautiful and such an awesome thing. 10/10. Became a member so I can keep coming back.

This place is so amazing. I learned so much about wolves, their natural behaviors, the efforts to pull them back from the brink of extinction, and so much more. We are lucky to have this wonderful conservation center so close to home here in SoCal.

My oldest is interested in wolves right now so we went here for her birthday. It was absolutely amazing! Definitely pay extra for the enrichment. We were able to throw food over to them and they were far more active when looking for food. Jacob was our tour guide and he did a great job! There were a lot of cool gifts at the gift center afterwards too!Keep in mind you'll end up going onto an unpaved dirt road so don't go there after a car wash and make sure your car can go up steep dirt roads. Also at the end the wolves started howling. It's in the video but you can't see them.

We paid $45 a person for the enrichment tour. That means they use food and scents to attract the wolves to the fence. And they did. Your photos will be shot through a chain link fence. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and easy to hear. We saw four wolves. I would not recommend this for kids unless they are really into wolves.
Alvin L — Google review
We scheduled a private tour and it did not disappoint. You can tell the wolves were taken care and our tour guide was amazing. She was super friendly and VERY knowledgeable. I highly recommend visiting the Wolf Center!

Must visit and experience this place. Incredibly informative and educational for young and old alike. Well-kept dirt pathways between exhibits (we were shown 2). Easy walk even for handicapped. There wasn't anyone in a wheelchair during our visit, however I'd say it is accessible. The gift shop has plenty of keepsakes and mementos to choose from. The guides were very helpful and knowledgeable. We learned a lot. This is a government sponsored program (limited to no funding) that survives on donations (admission prices) gift shop sales. Tickets must be purchased and tours scheduled in advance.

We enjoyed our behavioral enrichment tour though I can’t say it was super interesting. I liked the tour guide’s narration and knowledge. I certainly learned a lot but I was hoping for some more wolf action. I guess maybe that’s my fault for having different expectations than what this was. Interesting but I wouldn’t come back.

We moved out of state and had to say goodbye to my son's favorite place on earth. The wonderful people that run the California Wolf Center are very knowledgeable and kind and always make visiting a terrific experience. Over the years, we visited many times, going to Julian for the weekend and taking several tours each weekend. Each tour has an educational component where you learn more about these gentle and misunderstood animals and their importance to the ecosystem. You then visit 2 habitats, 1 with the Mexican gray wolf ambassadors and 1 with the Rocky Mountain gray wolf (North American/Timber wolf) ambassadors. Most of the wolves stay in a remote habitat so they can be kept as wild as possible for re-introduction into a natural habitat. Julian is a wonderful town with friendly people and lots of history. Stay at the Julian Lodge to experience it to the fullest. Besides a small gift shop at the wolf center itself, there's a big building next door to the Julian Lodge that has an education center and big, wonderful gift shop with something for everyone. The instructions on the website are very accurate regarding arrival and visiting. This is a terrific weekend getaway that you can enjoy over and over again! We'll miss it so much! William Heise County Park is a serene and peaceful park that offers various activities such as hiking trails, RV & tent camping, basic cabins, bathrooms with hot showers. The rangers are friendly and accommodating while the surroundings are beautiful and well-maintained. In addition to this, the campground has an outdoor library cabinet where campers can enjoy reading at their campsites.
Beautiful campground. Well maintained and clean. We loved the outdoor library cabinet and had fun reading at our campsite. Highly recommend this place. The campground went above and beyond when I lost a necklace they mailed it to me. Beyond grateful for that!

This was a decent campground and very occupied on the weekends.Pros- The bathrooms were relatively clean and well-stocked with toilet paper.- The campsite was spacious and shaded with ample parking.- The wood was easy to purchase and collect at the entrance gate.- The surrounding trails were plentiful and easy to navigate.Cons- The staff were weirdly passive aggressive, and their tone was dismissive when communicating with them. I guess I’m talking about one young man in particular.- The showers are disgusting and spider-infested. I understand it’s camping, but still. I doubt any woman showered in the three days I was there.- Quiet hours were not even remotely observed.- Driving roads were often hazardously blocked by children.- Staff were selective about which rules they chose to enforce and others they ignored.Julian is close by, about 10 minutes for groceries, ice, gas, etc.

My husband and I (and our pug) came here for the first time last weekend with some friends & I cannot say enough good things about this park!! The bathrooms are clean and always stocked with the necessities, the rangers are friendly and accommodating, the surroundings are beautiful, the sites are peaceful, and there’s plenty of hikes and activities to do. We will definitely be coming back!

Different level trails are available around the campsite. Campsite also has running water(for shower you need quarters) and drinking water available. My phone worked really well throughout the park. I was able to watch YouTube at my site. So many families with kids! Even has playground.

Great campground a short drive from San Diego and close to Julian. Safe, well maintained, lots of hiking trails, and hot showers (coin operated).

We had a great time here despite the horse fly infestation and constant buzzing and bites. Once the winds picked up, the horse flies left us alone. Both the campgrounds and trails were maintained well, and the staff was both helpful and welcoming. At the ranger station, you can exchange your dollars for quarters, which was a blessing since we didn't have enough quarters for our showers. The shower water was lukewarm during the warm weather, so it wasn't a problem. Water spigots are conveniently located near each campsite, making it easy to find them. A filtered water station was also located near the entrance of a trail where drinking water bottles could be refilled. There are plenty of trees that provide shade. If you're new to camping, it's important to prepare for the scorching sun at specific times of day, and know where to put your camping belongings, as personal belongings will melt. There are campsites that don't have any shade at all. Our plan is to revisit during cooler weather to experience it in a different climate 😊

Me and my family had a wonderful time camping for 4 days. The views were stunning and the wildlife was fascinating. During our time there we caught several butterflies, rolly pollies, tadpoles, fish, and I even caught a toad (all were released) I'd like to be a nature photographer one day so taking pictures of all the plants, animals, and sky was delightful. The park Rangers minded their business most of the time besides just checking in on us once or twice a day when doing their rounds (which I liked but others may not) One complaint I had was that the cabins that were handicap accessible cost a considerable amount more than the cabins with stairs, my aunt has a broken foot so going up and down was extremely painful for her but we simply didn't have the extra money to pay for one of the handicap accessible cabins for her. If making something accessible for a disabled person can benefit everyone why wouldn't you make it as accessible as the others? Disabled people already have enough going on, they shouldn't have to pay more just to be accommodated.

I don't even want to review this campground because I want to keep it all to myself, it's so peaceful and beautiful. It truly fills my soul to be here. The staff are fantastic and very strict with quiet hours and the amenities are clean and well maintained. There are gorgeous trails right in the camp ground.... It's my favorite in San Diego County.

Very well kept and the park staff is friendly and informative. You can purchase wood for $6 a bundle. I would stay here again. Beware the flies during the day and mosquitoes in the bathrooms. I would bring a fly swatter and soap for any bathroom trip.

We spent a lovely 3 days tent camping here. The bathrooms were super clean, the rangers were friendly, and the park was clean. Love camping here!

Nice facility with large campsites. Bathrooms have sinks and some have coin operated showers, quarters only and no change machine so come prepared. But the showers do have heat which was nice. Firewood available for sale. Close to Julian, about 10 minutes.

great place to camp! especially for San Diego folks. get away to Julian, its a 10min drive. has some nice hiking areas, clean bathrooms, decent showers, overall 10/10

Such a great park! Not seemingly well-known which is a shame. $3 entry. All the rangers are awesome and the guy at the entrance gave us some great trail tips!Bring water and sunscreen. It gets hot out here. Canyon Oak Loop was well maintained and cleared and the scenery is amazing! A nice campground too.

Great place to camp, family friendly, they have 3 trails that were great it can use some trimming on the trees, but still worth the hike up the trails, he views were amazing! campsites are spacious and private if in an Rv/Trailer, seeing the tents spots they looked spacious also, staff very friendly I definitely will be coming Back!! only downside is the bathrooms need to be kept up and cleaned but besides that the stay was well worth it!
Ouida A — Google review
I'd like to double and give this park 10 stars. When we checked in we had made a mistake in reservations, the ranger was so kind and helpful and got things straightened out ASAP. This is a fabulously well laid out park with hiking and mountain bike trails which are wide and well maintained.

Beautiful park, I have an upcoming camping trip and I thought I would go and see the campground prior to my stay. I'm in love with this park. The hiking trails are gorgeous and I was very happy to see the amount of new trees being planted!I asked one of the park rangers for his favorite sites and he said #44 for RV and 102 for tent. 102 is very private with parking detached from the site.Cabin #5 is great with the most space for kiddos to run around. Also, there's so many pine and oak trees and they give this campground a very nice foresty smell.
RM R — Google review
Great little San Diego get away park for day use or camping. Campsites and park is super clean and well maintained. Lots of pine trees and local wild flowers, native plants and grass. Hiking trails were also private and peaceful with a few sitting benches placed along trails. Wildlife everywhere. Dudley's Famous Bakery and Cafe west of park and the town of Julian east of park.
Craig S — Google review
This is a great campsite. The campsites feel secluded from each other due to trees and hills, and each of the three sites we had (sites 98, 99, and 100) had good flat spots for tents, were spacious and had good shade.Quiet hours were surprisingly well observed given how full the campground was.The only downside was the bathroom did not seem to be cleaned on a daily basis. Lots of toilet paper accumulated on the ground.
Leilani T — Google review
This park is fantastic. It's a true gem.. the little wooden cabins are perfect for a sleepover. They don't have any kitchens or running bathrooms in them, but they have a giant fire pit in the back where you can grill and they have shared bathrooms and showers. Great for a few days or a week. Lots of giant RVs were parked and they have plenty of tent camping for individuals and large groups. The best grocery store is before you climb the mountain as groceries and Julian are pretty expensive and selection is sparse, so guess what you need before you go the final distance to Julian. Great hiking trails, friendly people. Cute shopping stores. It's an overall wonderful experience.

Many covered and exposed trails within the park. $3 entry. Many spotless bathrooms. Would Def recommend. Going to look into camping there next.

The Eagle Mining Co. is a historical gold mine that allows visitors to explore its tunnels, pan for gold, and purchase souvenirs. The tour includes information about the stamp mill, mercury processing and recovery, ecological effects of mining, and the daily life of miners who worked by candlelight under tons of rock.
Very friendly and informative tour guides. Mathew was our guide and has a ton of info about the history, archeology, and mined quartz separation process for mining gold. Educational, historic, and fun.

What a great experience. Not overly commercialized and the people working there are genuinely happy to be there. The tour was fascinating. I highly suggest this on a hot day as well because it's much cooler in the mines.

Excellent tour of some early gold mine shafts. Well presented and a very kind staff. I would hands down recommend this gem of a spot to anyone wanting a day trip with some thrill. It is a very kid friendly location as well.

What a great little gem. It was super affordable to take the whole family. It was really informative and I learned a lot while there. The panning for gold was fun but unfortunately you do not to keep what you get haha. But that's okay - the gift shop is small and cute. They also sell homemade pickles there which are delicious!!!

Une vrai mine d'or, dans tout les sens du terme. Personnels très sympas qui explique très clairement et simplement, pour que nous, qui ne comprenons pas très bien l'anglais, avons presque tout compris!(Translated by Google)A real gold mine, in every sense of the word. Very friendly staff who explain very clearly and simply, so that we, who don't understand English very well, understood almost everything!

Lots of fun and very interesting. The walk through the mine includes a staircase of 18 steep steps. Very doable for most folks. Our guide, John told us all about the history of the mine and Julian. Definately recommend visiting.

I unfortunately forgot our tour guides name today, but he was so nice and knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information and definitely told us a lot of history about the mine and a lot about the tools, everyone was friendly and nice here and the tour was about an hour long, very informative for all ages. Can’t imagine what these miners went through. It was a great experience and I would recommend families to go, kids think going in a mine is cool and it’s cool to show them Minecraft but in real life!

I had a great time touring the mine and learning about the history of Julian. I stopped in on a whim and it ended up being the best part of my trip to Julian. The tour guide was fun and engaging. I wish I remembered his name so I could give him credit. There is gold panning and a small gift shop with tons of rare rocks and minerals.

Rick was our tour guide, he was the best! It was such an awesome tour. Very informative, educational, fun, I can't say enough great things. Cool old tools & vehicles to look at around the property. The mine has so much history. He explained & taught us how to pan for gold. Seeing all the quartz, veins, mining tools & tracks, earthquake fault lines was unbelievably cool. Rick took his time to explain everything & answers all questions. Make sure you tip this man at the end for doing an oustanding job. The owner was really friendly & welcoming. Showed everyone the clean restrooms. Would highly recommend. What a great day!

What a great tour! I didn't know what to expect, I've been to Julian 500 times and just didn't think the gold mine tour would be good. But I was wrong! It was very thorough, full of history, and the people running it are so kind! They even had some BBQ straight off the grill and sides going for a very reasonable price.Definitely take the tour!!

This is an excellent gold mine tour. The guides are very knowledgeable and provide in depth answers to all of your questions. The tour exceeded my expectations. A definite must see while in the area.

The staff here are some of the most friendly people you'll find. Our tour guide Dwayne was knowledgeable with a sense of humor. I definitely recommend this place as it's a great piece of history and a place to learn about the old school process of mining. If you're in Julian it's a must visit.

Best overview of the gold mining process I have ever heard! Took this day trip to Julian from Palm Springs. Enjoyed a very diversely scenic drive through giant welded sculptures, dune buggies, desert, to forest. Indulged in some most delicious pie on the main street. A fun and educational experience.

Lions Tigers & Bears is a non-profit organization that aims to provide a safe and protected environment for abused and mistreated animals. The organization relies on the dedication of volunteers who often have other jobs but still support the mission. Visitors can take a two-hour informative tour and donate the admission cost towards helping the animals. Additionally, there is an online Wishlist available if visitors wish to bring donations to contribute towards their cause.
Woooow! This was a birthday gift from my friends. It was truly a great experience. We got to meet Bobbi and she was amazing. Michelle and Annie were very knowledgeable guides. It's definitely worth the trip. Learning about the stories of these poor animals and so many others in the US. It's time to get aware and protect these beautiful creatures. Thank you everyone at 🦁 🐯 and 🐻 for such an awesome first experience.
Keena P — Google review
It was a great experience! You have to buy your ticket in advance, because the experience consists of an organized tour (1.5 hrs), and then you can roam the grounds on your own. Eddie the Jaguar was amazing. The sanctuary was very clean, with well-maintained enclosures and spaces that made both the animals and visitors feel safe and comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, always ready to answer questions or provide more information about the animals and their stories. You can also feed some of the animals, which is cool. The sanctuary itself was beautiful, set amidst picturesque surroundings that added to the peaceful atmosphere. It was easy to get to as well. Large highways most the way, and NO winding mountain roads, which is nice.I left feeling inspired and grateful for the work the sanctuary is doing. It’s a perfect place for animal lovers and families. However, small children may not like some of the images of abused animals during the 20-minute video at the beginning of the tour.Great experience. Highly recommend!

Amazing experience with some absolutely gorgeous wild animals! This reserve saves and protects wild animals taken in as pets or abused in industry and gives them acres of land to recover and be safe. Fully non-profit organization that survives off donations and volunteers! Love it! 🥰

My husband and I visited the sanctuary from the east coast as part of a week long vacation in California. Even though this was only two hours of our trip, it’s all we’re still talking about now that we’re home. We did the Feed With a Keeper tour and had Chris as our volunteer guide. I was impressed with how passionate and knowledgeable she was about the animals. She went out of her way to make sure we had a great experience. We even got to talk to Bobbi briefly and the lead keeper, Cody. Our tour was closer to 3 hours, even though we only paid for 2. She wanted to make sure we had plenty of opportunity to meet and feed all the amazing animals. Being that close to and interacting with the big cats and bears was absolutely awe inspiring and I’ll never forget it. I work in the animal behavior field and spent many years working in an animal shelter and was impressed with the care and enrichment the animals at the sanctuary received. Truly a special place. I wish we lived closer, we would come back again and again!

I have volunteered for Lions, Tigers and Bears since 2016. The founder, Bobbi Brink, works tirelessly to give the rescued animals the life they deserve. Some have come from the entertainment industry, private ownership, exotic animal trade, so-called zoos, cub petting and other illegal arenas. You can go on an educational visit Wednesday through Saturday and learn the stories of these beautiful animals. This definitely is my happy place.
Suzanne A — Google review
We were not sure what to expect on our first visit to Lions Tigers & Bears, but were more than impressed with the conservation and rescue going on here. We were shocked to learn about the rescues and abuse these beautiful cats and bears endured in Hollywood, private collectors or other zoos. We met Bobbi Brink, Founder Lions Tigers & Bears while here and her passion and compassion were evident! She and her staff love on these beutiful animals and nurse them back to health and restore their quality of life. The tour of the grounds is fun and very educational.Alpine can get very hot and very cold depending on the month you visit Bobbi Lions Tigers & Bears, so bring sunscreen, hats, jackets and dress for hiking as this tour is a jaunt an very rural. It's worht the drive here and you'll be helping donate to this cause just by buying a ticket. They do make their cause and donation needs known, but they are not pushy and it's very relaxed here.

This oasis is home to wide variety of rescued exotic animals (lions, tigers, bears, a jaguar, leopard, plus many more!). Everyone was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and noticeably caring of all the animals. I will definitely be coming back more frequently to support the amazing work Bobbi and her team do.

Incredibly well run and clean, with healthy animals that look like they would make great pets - but don’t think about it :-)Michele, Carolyn, and Nancy were all knowledgeable and awesome to work with, and please say hey to Meatball for us when you get there. It’s a must visit for people that care about our four-legged fluffy friends, and where else are you going to feed an appreciative lion lunch?

Such an amazing sanctuary for these large beautiful animals! Bobby has created a wonderful home for them. Definitely a must see!!
Vanessa R — Google review
The owner's story is inspiring. The property is beautiful. The tour guides and employees/volunteers are all very friendly. The ticket prices are worth what you get. The stories of all the animals is bitter-sweet.

What a great find. The day spent at the park was fantastic. The tour guide was very good and the exhibits were very nice and the animals were very active. Buy tickets before getting to the park to make it easier. Love what they do for rescues. Will go back to support this cause.

What an amazing experience!! Getting to see these animals up close and was breathtaking. All the animals are so well cared for. My husband and I were able to feed Louie the lion and Suri lioness, Nola the white tiger and Conga a super cute leopard. So cool!! Beautiful property. Our tour guide was kind, very informative, knew so much about each animal and answered all of our questions. Had such an amazing time.
Elle G — Google review
Amazing. This place should not exist but because people think it would be cool to have a wild animal as a pet then realize they can't handle it anymore, this place is the animals safety net to live out their days. Thanks Bobbi and all your volunteers for giving these animals their best life after the hell they have been through. For those interested, this place is a top notch experience and incredible facilities for both animals and us humans. They even have one you can pet. Tom was a good boy.
Jim C — Google review
What a cool find. We heard about it randomly from someone at our hotel and are so happy we went. A unique place on a beautiful piece of land. Took our kids who absolutely loved seeing the animals up close but more importantly were inspired by the rescue efforts. There were some hard lessons for them in there too, but they came away touched by the efforts to give these amazing animals forever homes. Also, the staff here is super friendly and helpful. The whole place has a refreshing positive vibe.
Matt B — Google review
We had a good start of our day in Alpine out with the lions tigers and bears and what a nice time. We had a tour guide who was very informative (I couldn’t get a video without someone talking) my only grumble… personal pet peeve. :) We left thankful the money we spent is all for these beautiful animals to have a safe life. My 16 year old wanted to obviously pet and play with these beauties.. and if we can go to a place where we can do this we need to pay attention to why.. (sedation?) is what I learned. The enclosures allow for you to watch these beautiful creatures roam their homes. I would suggest if you have younger toddlers who are less likely to be able to listen to the “no running” you might be want to give them another year to have them really enjoy this great piece of land.
Priscilla M — Google review
Such a wonderful experience and would highly recommend everyone takes the time to visit this beautiful place. Everyone we came in contact with was nice and friendly. All the animals are well taken care of and loved. Money well spent and all goes back into the care of the animals and their habitats. Thank you for creating a sanctuary for these animals so they can spend the rest of their days in comfort and happiness. We will definitely be back.
COLLEEN F — Google review
This was such a phenomenal experience! Because of the weather we didn't get to see the bears but just another reason to come back! Bonus because of the weather our group was super small so it felt like a private tour! The staff are so kind, so knowledgeable, & it is clear the primary focus of the sanctuary is the animals well being & education, not pandering/entertaining the public. The work they are doing is so important & it was an entertaining & educational outing!

The brewery is not open for tours, only the tasting room is open. This is not the location of the tasting room, do not go to this pin. On maps look up JARDIN CERVEZA TECATE, the entrance is just west of this pin. They give you one free Tecate on draft, you can't purchase any additional beers.

Viejas Casino & Resort is a well-appointed hotel with various dining options and complimentary Wi-Fi. The establishment boasts of a seasonal outdoor pool where guests can relax and unwind. In addition to the exceptional slot machines, the New Year's celebration held at the casino was an enjoyable experience for all attendees. The staff members are highly professional, while parking can be slightly inconvenient; however, free valet services are available to alleviate this issue.
Overdue review. I started going to Viejas about a month or two ago. Really short & quick trips. But my most recent one was by far the best. It’s always super clean and it smells nice. Plus for me since I am non-smoker.For the first time I played blackjack at the tables and the dealer was so nice. I didn’t know how to place and he explained it to me. I felt very welcomed and not push away like other casinos.

My wife and I love Viejas. We have been staying at your hotel, both regular and the willow for years. We just spent the night at the willow on 3-24 to 3-25. I guess we spent over 2500.00 this time. I would venture to say we have spent over 30,000 over time at your resort. The grove steakhouse is also one of our favorite restaurants in San Diego and we love it. Last night we had a different experience. We ordered oysters. As a former professional chef, I know that oysters kill more people than all foods combined and need to be treated carefully. the oysters that we were served were "scary" shriveled up in the shell, obviously dead and should have been thrown away. Any professional chef would have never served them. It was insulting. The rest of the food was great the lamb was cooked perfectly and my wife's lobster tail was ok. When the check came we discovered that the frozen lobster tail was 150.00. The wholesale price for a frozen lobster tail at most is 20.00. As a Chef when you mark up prices for food items you multiply by 3. Food cost, labor and over head. That lobster tail should have been prices at 60.00. I can even go as far as 75.00 to be fair. When we saw the bill we were shocked that it was 150.00. I asked the the manager Raphael, he was pleasant and tried to help us. Our server swore that she told us the price 2 times. Her name is Toni. She is a liar. My wife and I spend thousands of dollars dining out and we know our stuff. At some point the "manager" Rosemary got involved and told us she was going to call security if we pressed the issue further. I am absolutely mortified that after the money I have spent at you casino that my wife and I would be treated this way. I have not posted this online yet and I would prefer not to. You have my contact information and I would appreciate a call please.

Best casino I've been to in California. The dealers are great, the service is outstanding, the bar were going quick with a line of orders. The drinks were great with a good price. Overall I am coming back with a bigger party next time.

Well haven't been there in a while last night found out a few new things. The casino has a new parking garage that's open now also they did some switching around with the games, basically 😢 grouping them all together like the dragon links with the dragon links and Keno with Keno . It's all right just that I have specific machines that I purposely go to every time and was sad to see them not where they have been for the past 15 years 😢
Joseph F — Google review
Hotel is very clean and the casino is enormous. The rooms were a good size, but the beds were extremely soft. The pool is only open 10-7, so if you want to swim make sure you free up the middle of your day. The outlet mall across the street is very convenient and it's easy to find. Parking garage is a bit of a walk to the hotel itself, so if you don't want to use valet, make sure you aren't wearing shoes that will hurt your feet.
Lily M — Google review
The hotel is really nice and the price reflects this. The Bingo is why we go, and it is getting harder and harder to find a seat!It is supposed to be "first come, first served" which is fair. Bingo starts at 5:30, so we get there at 3:30 to find a seat.Someone keeps "reserving" seats, with no buy-in receipt. The manager just brushes this off, but it is annoying to get there so early and still have to hunt for a seat, and know, that it is the same guy who "reserves" all the good seats for his friends who often do not show up.Don't expect the Bingo Manager to care. But shout out to Adam and to Hannah. They are GREAT!

As far as casino gambling, its one of the better options in San Diego county. Late night and early morning weekdays there are more security guards walking than people gambling, so no worries about safety. Its the player service staff that makes my time fun, plus the food is good, and its easy to drive to (right off the I-8)Listen up Viejas Tribe- Ive had many hosts, my current host Johanna is a wonderful host, very responsive to my needs, professional, a natural to be senior executive player development host. She does her job well and knows how to retain players, keep us happily gambling and enjoying ourselves. Just wanted to give her kudos,Thanks,Layth

They now charge to use their car chargers and the new garage they built is placed terribly making you have to walk outside forever just to get in the casino. Their birthday “gift” is a joke, a 25% off coupon for the gift shop and 2 coupons to get a beer or glass of wine for $1 and zero free play. And in my experience they have the tightest slots of all the casinos in San Diego county. Definitely would pick another place over here.

I had an amazing time at Viejas Outlet Center yesterday, with my family. There were so many great food options, the facilities were clean, and there was plenty of parking. The grounds were well-maintained, and I loved the addition of roller skating and a DJ. I can't wait for my next visit!

Nice staff and clean hotel! Smoke smell is everywhere tho. Stayed there 3 nights, called twice for room service to come refresh out Executive Suite, the most expensive room they offer, both times I was told that it’s scheduled for tomorrow, 3 days and 3 nights, they did not refresh it once. No tooth brush, no extra towels, no shower gel but a small mini one. Can’t believe it they survive with such service.

This compliment is for the best Host in America his name is Ryan Horn, and like his last name " which signifies sound he is making noise in the executive hosting department, he should give a master class to other hosts across America on how to be a great host. His talent and relationships with his clients are UNMATCHED...if any casino ever wants to know how to train or teach their hosts how to be amazing people and great host. Look no further than Ryan Horn...who indeed is making noise in the casino industry as the best Host in America. Viejas is sooooo fortunate to have such a remarkable human being on their team, Ryan Horn is the best part of Viejas and the only reason for them getting this 5-star rating, if I could make it 10 stars I would. Ryan, I salute you and I am blessed to have you as my host as well as everyone else who have the privilege of calling you, their host.

Viejas it's very nice to stay in and have fun at their casino, or a concert or just to have a drink and listen to live music on a weekend. Service is great, food is delicious and the hotel is deluxe so it's the pool and all amenities. So don't give it any second thoughts just do it!!! Have fun!

We were there for an Aaron Lewis concert, great atmosphere at the pool, food at the restaurants was absolutely top, staff was all incredibly helpful and friendly notch and not outrageously priced. I would highly recommend.

Viejas Casino & Resort is my favorite casino in San Diego county. Lots of gaming along with bingo. Beautiful gift shop. Always enjoy playing their slots. Recent addition of a new parking structure. Their rooms are very nice and beautiful pool. They have a steak house which is excellent. And offer many other food choices. They have great shows offered. And directly across the street is a beautiful shopping center. Lots to do at Viejas!!!!

Enjoyable time. Great game selection. Attentive staff. The only thing I found odd was there strange craps rules where you roll dice and they have cards that dictate and change the outcome of the roll... I understand in California you can't have dice games but it was extremely hard to win anything..

We went mainly to the outlet stores. I enjoyed being with my family going to Coach, Famous Footwear and a Candy Shop. Service was great except for the Candy Shop. The young lady who helped us looked at me, as if challenging me with a little head Bob, saying "yes" - as if I was a burden. I should've walked out and not spent $$ there but my daughters were with me and I didn't want to ruin my time with them! I won't go back the chocolate wasn't that good & uneventful. Chocolatier needs more practice!! I've had way better chocolate & service elsewhere for the same amount of $$ and even less $$. Like I said, I just won't go back to that Candy Shop. The Casino is beautiful inside. Lots of people. I played a little but the games weren't being kind so I stopped playing. Maybe next time! They had a band singing live music but no dance floor. There were plenty of bathrooms as well. They had a nice & long beverage area for self-serve sodas & coffee/cocoa and a very long & clean bar. I didn't go exploring as I didn't stay long enough to walk around. Good vibe.

Loud music test for a concert ruined our morning . The temp in our room was broken and A/C was freezing all night. I got sick. They changed filter but still broke. Spoke to manager but he gave us the late check out but this noise is. Crazy . The bathroom towel holder broke on me and that was it for our stay .front desk said we had to deal with the loud noise of test runs and it's not a good time for doing that if we had came here to escape issues and we lost our celllphone in the process.

I have never stayed in any of the rooms. However I have had experience with Grab and Go. nice little quick shopping spree for your treats, and deli foods, or just some good coffee, with your favorite pastry.Slot machines can be a little tight. So I try not to spend much on that. It's a short distance from El Cajon or Santee CA.They also have a lot of other shops and a new parking structure. I wish only they would become smoke free.

I would highly recommend this casino over any other casino in San Diego. It is huge, super clean, fun, good food and you win! It is also beautiful and the customer service here is awesome! They always have some kind of entertainment that everyone can enjoy. You can actually hear the fun, people having just a great time. Try it out, you won't be disappointed.

I love going to Viejas and I must say that the valet service is wonderful 👌❤️ To me, it's important when the staff takes the time to learn my name, and they have learned it! They are so welcoming, too!!! Now the casino, I have a good time and other times, my money goes quickly. I call it making a deposit! But I do have my lucky days. Just waiting on big one!!! Good time, overall. I bring friends and family, and they enjoy it ❤️

I've never left a review but Viejas Casino & Willows Hotel has been exceptional in their service. I've been staying in a lot of four star hotels and this one has the best service so far. Brooke has been so understanding and friendly when she checked me in. There was a global IT service down that day which none of us knew. I was upset and annoyed, and Brook was trying everything she could to help me out. I could tell that she genuinely cares about her guests and wants to help them out. Thank you!The front desk manger, I believe his name was Thomas, was very polite and professional in handling the situation. He also helped me to upgrade my room to a beautiful suite which I enjoyed a lot, and provided the breakfast voucher. And by the way, the new willow hotel has just been built 6 years ago, and is very modern and stylish. Highly recommended. Now I'd like to say that more than these upgrades he gave me, but more that his politeness was above and beyond. He later escorted me to my room while giving a tour, introducing the casino and different amenities. He said hopefully this isn't my last time to be here. He has really exceeded my expectation about hotel service. I think he was off on that day but still helped me.On the day of checking out, I was going to walk, while the old guy who drove the cart and a few other valet staff offered to drive me to the parking.Overall, everyone in the hotel is genuinely willing to help. Impressive. Will stay again.

Love this casino and hotelWe had a fabulous time! We went the Grove steak house for dinner and the food was great however our server was terrible! She acted like we were bothering her which I didn’t appreciate! Also we were celebrating an anniversary and she did nothing for us or acknowledged it, But the server assistant Alex was awesome! Wish we could have tipped him instead! We will be coming back for another staycation regardless but paying $$$$We should have better service

The whole hotel was under renovations and we were not told at time of booking via expedia. The front office didn't know much about the surrounding area. I did have the best steak of my life at the steakhouse. There was construction everywhere.

Barona Resort & Casino is a great place to stay if you're looking for an adventure outside of San Diego. The resort is located on a large piece of land, and offers beautiful gardens and rolling hills as well as lakes and pools. There are plenty of activities available at the hotel, including golfing, tennis, horseback riding, and fishing. Guests can enjoy fine dining in the restaurants or relax in one of the luxurious spa treatments.
The Casino it self has very friendly and helpful host. The place is super clean. The workers make sure of it.When playing on the Casino floor make sure you play the slot machines as they make the most points for your Club Card. As for the Table Games.....they Don't give your Club Card every many points. Even though you spend a lot of you money or time there. So every Casino is different in there points for their Club Cards. But the food court is Awesome 😎👍.

We went to the casino. We didn’t stay at the hotel. The hotel is only on a comp basis so us low rollers don’t get a chance to stay there. That’s too bad since it’s about 30 min drive from Mira Mesa. The casino was great. It seemed big, the slots are not squished together. It’s non smoking which is fantastic. When we go to Las Vegas, we hate the secondhand smoke but it’s part of the Vegas experience. They have hand sanitizer stations everywhere. Great for the germaphobes. The food court offers lots of choices. The Asian food restaurant was busy but the food came out quickly. We signed up for the players card. After playing our favourite slots we wanted to get a late lunch. Went to the Barona Club desk to see if we had any points for comps and I was surprised, I was upgraded to Gold status plus $20 food comp. after some more slot play, we wanted to get some dinner and got another $15 food comp. never had any comps from other casinos. Thank you Barona! We even had a casino host come over to introduce himself. Never had that experience in Las Vegas. Ironically, we are going to Las Vegas next and we would have been happy to have stayed nearby and play here instead. The background music wasn’t too loud as some other casinos and it just seemed more enjoyable. The staff are very friendly always smiling. They have about 7 EV chargers on the level 3 and all free. There were some on level 1 but couldn’t find them. They may have more on the other levels.See you again next time we are in town.

I can't rate the rooms because I only went for the day to gamble. But guest services (Tom) was an amazing employee when he was signing my mother up for her players card. He's fun, nice and very informative. So many laughs while taking care of us. Made us feel very comfortable and ready to play!I love the fact that it's a smoke-free casino and good food options in the food court. A beautiful casino floor overall.I will be returning soon!

Cool casino with a barn-style exterior. This is apparently San Diego's only non-smoking casino and I have to say it's very nice not inhaling a room full of smoke. They've also won many awards for being the cleanest casino for multiple years in a row - it's definitely very clean. According to my research, this is the best casino to go to for slot machines.

We used to love going to Barona because we could gamble for a few hours on a couple hundred dollars. Not the case anymore, we Blow through hundreds in less than an hour. I don’t mind that I lose the money, but I’d like to be able to have some fun for a couple hours. Time to find a new casino!!!

This casino will collect dirt in the future. None smoking. People's play they like to smoke and no smoking with this casino. There service so bad now. Except for those drinks service. Look like they not happy when you ask for a drink. And People's work here are so so lazy. All they do just stand there and talking. They don't want to deal the cards and not much table to play like b4. All they want is just suck your money until you dry out.

This Casino is by far my favorite in all the land. Loose slots and SUPER CLEAN!! Only drawback is you gotta be a pretty high ranking club member ( Diamond I think) to get a room. Lucky for me I have a friend who is just that. If you ever have the opportunity to go to Barona, even if only for the day, jump on it. You won't regret it. Hopefully they will comp me a room for the great review 😉!! I wouldn't say no Barona!! Even if they don't, I still stand by this review. No compensation has been givennor is it expected... but I love surprises Barona!

I haven't been here in nearly 18 years. The road there is still bad. No smoking at all inside which is fine I don't smoke but it feels odd for a casino. Loosest slots is a joke motto, and no I'm not mad because I didn't become instant rich on a $20 bill, the machines are tight. Not even small hits between the 4 of us that went.No self serve drinks, only from cart pushers. Not really a knock but kinda irritating to myself personally.I've also been told that you can't even rent a room here now unless you're a diamond member? That's ridiculous. This casino was popping a decade or two ago. People laughing, crowded the whole casino vibe. Now? It's quiet. Relatively empty and honestly feels soulless.I was looking forward to visiting barona on my trip to Cali. Now I can honestly say I'll never come back.
Patrick D — Google review
While I Did enjoy the non-smoking casino the machines were more expensive here and payed out nothing maybe it's bad luck but even when I've lost at a casino I usually have a few wins I spent 40$ on my favorite slot games and lost 40$ I did have two wins of about 8 dollars total but It was largely a unengaging experience. There was many food options but no free soda or tea like other casinos, there was a cart going around with Juice and coffee but it was warm and even on ice it tasted too acidic. I believe they had Coke but it looked incredibly Flat. This casino is big and has lots of food options but perhaps it's too big for it's own good. The thing I did enjoy the most was the Smoke Free environment that part was very nice I wish more casinos would have mostly smoke free experience with a small smoking area not the other way around.

I took my son and daughter for the first time !!! We had lots of fun, we ate in the food court, I went to the burger place and the food was alright, I loved the French fries, but honestly my kids went to other restaurants and they thought the food was bland and tastes like cafeteria food lol but we still had a gd time. Also the servers were really nice and polite!! I'll be going back soon I hope I find something that's good if not I'll stick with the French fries lol.

I love Pat, the Marine security guard that does hat tricks. He's super friendly and a great dude. The slots are kind of tight like every other Indian casino but it's a beautiful compound and very clean inside and out.

I was banned from Barona Casino for no valid reason. I was kicked out of my room abruptly and banned. I contacted the gaming commission to request reinstatement, and the ban was upheld without even holding a hearing. I was a loyal diamond card player and feel discriminated against. My offers have been taken away from me that I well earned. I have visited Barona for over a decade, and I feel I received this type of treatment due to disclosing to them that I suffer from major depression and anxiety. Instead of being understanding, I was called "rude" and banned.

😘 the inside of the casino you would not get suffocated from the smoke. Love the no smoking. I wish they had the bus shuttle again too hard for me to drive, not like before when I was younger.

The best part was coming over the mountain and it's the first time you see the whole layout ! The view is breath taking! It has a magical touch that for a brief moment you believe in fairies and unicorns! The gaming is awesome as well , but take the time to take in the scenery. And for management you have a good thing going you need to expound on it, like the arch that could lead into a brook, over a bridge or moat even a magical garden.Big C,P.S. Sorry didn't get a chance to add photos maybe you guys can when you go visit.

Pros: non smoking and clean, friendly staff, good selection at food court.Cons: video poker machines auto hold cards, no machines to cash out your tickets, you have to go to a change booth. Food took over 30 minutes for a half sandwich, high limits on table games.

I went there for the bike ride and I was really impressed by the road and the views. The mountain run is twisty and technical and can be done in the uphill and downhill direction. My humble advice for you is not to get carried away because it’s not very forgiving. This is a highly recommended spot for a bike ride.

Parking fee is $10 to get in, but the park is exceptional. We love coming up as a family and hiking through this beautiful park. The restrooms have always been open and well maintained, there are always plenty of parking spaces, and they offer camp sites throughout as well. We've only hiked about 7 miles of trails as it stands (with two young children) but still makes the drive up completely worth it. The wildlife, both plant and animal, is enough to refresh and recharge you after a long week.

A perfect woodland outdoor paradise with plenty of high-quality camping. I was amazed, only an hour and a half drive from San Diego. What's more is the world renowned astronomical observatory, making this the best recreational excursion I can think of!

We wanted to go to the Boucher Tower but the road was closed (Apr 12). There were also a lot of clouds in the area so we wouldn't probably see anything anyway.. So we hiked around the pond instead and spotted a couple squirrels & blackbirds there. The forest is beautiful! Day use fee is $10 for a car. Very friendly park rangers.

I'm not a fan of summer camping only because of the copious amounts of mountain flies. So annoying! Make sure you're geared up for this situation. other than that it was quite nice.

Had a good time camping here with the fam. It's at max a 3 day site, as there isn't a whole lot to do in this area if you're looking for activities. We enjoyed the Fire Lookout spot, the pond, driving "in to town" where the general store is, and exploring Palomar Observatory. The naturalist at the site had Junior Ranger badge opportunities and also had a show about mountain lions and mammals in the area. The showers at the site weren't bad, each spot had its own water source which was very nice, and there was plenty of shade even though it was somewhat hot. Bring bug spray!!

This state park is well cared for with barely no litter along well maintained roads. The oak and cedar trees are massive and absolutely beautiful. I found many areas of grinding holes in large rocks. I imagined the past presence of families grinding acorns , fishing ,and perhaps weaving baskets. The wild flowers were varied and plentiful. On the drive up I was surrounded in cloudy weather, once up top the sun shown and I looked over to see a blanket of thick clouds covering the valley below. Great day.

Went hiking with a friend and wasn't disappointed. Checked in with the ranger station and paid the $10 fee. The ranger (sorry I forgot your name) was very friendly and made a few suggestions as to what to see. Ended up hiking to "The Lookout" and back. We missed going to the observatory for it closed at 3:30pm. I would like to come again and explore more of the park!

Even though it was closed to drive down to the pond, it was still fun to explore the snow with our puppy. Always a beautiful drive. Saw a few deer alongside the road before getting to the top of the mountain.

Who would think that just an hour drive away from a bustling California metropolis, there is a place where the scenery is beautiful, the air smells amazing, and it's so quiet that you can hear yourself think. Hiking is a great way to get the heart pumping and Palomar Mountain park is a great place to do it. There are clean indoor restrooms, we'll groomed and marked trails, and even a cool little pond. Even the drive up to the park is awesome with a winding road that's great for a motorcycle ride to go hiking.

Have not camped here. Have hiked here on some nice trails. Also, the Boucher Fire Lookout Tower is located there. (Note: the tower is not wheelchair accessible.). Visitors are allowed, no more than 4 at a time, and children must be accompanied by an adult. The fire lookouts that staff the tower, May 1 through November 30, are happy to greet you, and share information about their jobs and history of the tower. Right next to the tower, there is a very nice ground level wheelchair accessible viewing platform that has information about the tower and the flora and fauna of the area. Also, you have an unobstructed view all the way to the Pacific including Catalina Island, Channel Islands, etc.

I came here during the Saturday of Labor Day weekend and had an amazing time. Park entrance fee is an easy $10 and there are plenty of parking lots and campgrounds for day use and overnight use respectively. My friends and I did a 6.2 mile hike connecting some trails around the park that take you along both the westward facing side of the mountain as well as into the center of the park. Your scenery will change from expansive views of SoCal to more secluded forested scenes within throughout your time in the park. The temperature above 5,000 feet was a good 15-20 degrees cooler than the valley below. The park staff was extremely friendly and enthusiastic to share their knowledge of the park with us. Stopping by the fire lookout tower is a must as well. Altogether I feel extremely fulfilled with having visited Palomar Mountain and look forward to coming back in the future.

This was such a fun hike for me, I'm not very athletic some of the hills I needed some rest on. Lots of different routes to take to vary the difficulty. I did about six miles and it was so clean and peaceful. We only saw one piece of litter which we removed. Birding is nice here

Awesome view of San Diego 360 degrees! They have a very nicely built stone steps. Light hiking and walking. If you have kids just be careful they don’t go off trail because there is some drops down the hill. It’s very peaceful there’s a variety of animals including birds lizards and butterflies it’s worth it to see at least once but I’m definitely going back multiple times.

A gorgeous lookout point that I love to visit every time I’m in San Diego. A beautiful place to share with friends, family and lovers. You can walk all around the hill to get a 360 view of the surroundings. It’s very popular for sunsets so if that’s your plan get there a bit before sunset to find parking and enjoy the park a little longer. There’s also an amphitheater at the top, it’s very cool… all made of rock. Some people go to workout, do yoga and meditation. It’s a peaceful place to go

I have started a part time position providing Security services at the Park it is a pleasant place to be on post. There is no playground, and the only restrooms I saw were Port A Pottys brought in for the Mt Helix Food and Wine Festival which was August 17, 2024.No containers allowed, no vaping/smoking no skateboarding (too dangerous on the steep trails and narrow rock cut steps)Dogs must be leashed and controlled at all times and picked up after (you WILL be cited if caught)Gates are normally open 10 am to sunset, currently 8 pm but after the time change winter hours gates close 6 pm.Parking is EXTREMELY LIMITED and there is NO STREET PARKING - You Will be cited and possibly towed! For events they schedule shuttle service and set aside parking down the hill and there are a few spots cordoned off for vendors and deliveries for the event. The shuttles are very efficient and they keep running until all event attendees have been picked up.

It's an amazing full day's adventure. Parking is on a hill, so drive to the top and start your search for a spot there. It's more than a safari ride, there are many exhibits and themed areas. No matter what you do, be sure to take that safari tour. The guides are well versed and are quick to point out the sights. Wild antelope, giraffes, cheetahs 🐆, and more. There are gift shops, of course, and a few different food choices throughout. You can save money by bringing your own food, saving money for the gift shops!Enjoy your day, and be prepared to walk into a great adventure.

Safari was very cool, but the website is incredibly confusing even though it’s been “revamped”. The tour guide on the safari was hilarious and knowledgeable. Seeing the giraffes and rhinos grazing alongside some other species of deer was very nice. The rest of the park seemed empty. Didn’t see cheetahs, lions, elephants or anything really besides some birds. Kind of expensive to not see much and would’ve loved to just pay for the safari only.

Exceptional Day at San Diego Zoo Safari Park! Our visit to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park was nothing short of extraordinary, starting from the striking front sign and impeccably maintained restrooms. The park boasts a delightful atmosphere with pristine cleanliness and a wide array of exceptional exhibits that genuinely immerse visitors in the wonders of wildlife. One of the standout features was the feeling of safety throughout the park, allowing us to explore with peace of mind. The affordability of the food was a pleasant surprise compared to other attractions, and the level of customer care rivaled that of Disney—volunteers were exceptionally knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sharing insights. We were particularly drawn to the gorillas, tigers, and elephants, eagerly anticipating their upcoming multimillion-dollar exhibit overhaul. This commitment to enhancing animal habitats promises even more enriching experiences in the future. Moreover, discovering the bat exhibits and exploring the serene bonsai garden added unique dimensions to our visit. These lesser-known attractions provided fascinating insights into lesser-known aspects of the natural world. For families, the opportunity to upgrade kids' tickets to a one-year membership for free is an outstanding value. It encourages return visits to delve deeper into the park's offerings. In conclusion, our time at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park was truly remarkable. Whether you're a local or a visitor, this park offers an unforgettable day surrounded by captivating wildlife and unparalleled park experiences. Highly recommended for nature enthusiasts of all ages!

We enjoyed the safari park so much!!! The park was very well designed and easy to navigate around. We booked a behind the scenes tour for the Australia section and it was so worth it! Some animals prefer to stay in their cozy nooks and we wouldn’t be able to see them otherwise. Thanks you so much to our guide Joseph and the care specialist Hunter we met, who are both so knowledgeable and passionate about the animals!

My husband and I came for my birthday weekend. Mostly for the mimosa wildlife safari, but you have to pay regular admission to the park as well. The park is huge and you see tons of wildlife. Shout out to Dominique, who served us mimosas and pastries on our safari ride. She was friendly and outgoing. I would definitely visit again!

So there are a huge amount of animals and things to do. It has an immersive wildlife experience with expansive habitats that allow visitors to observe animals in environments similar to their natural homes. The guided tours are awesome and there is a free tram which is 90% the paid 100$ per person tour. Definitely the best zoo I have visited!

We have been visiting this park for years, and it never gets old. We have an annual pass to support this amazing park and unfortunately, we can only visit once a year since we are busy. It is not a zoo where animals are in small, caged areas. There is a Safari Tram that takes you around a large safari tour with a live guide who talks about animals, their conservation and efforts to protect endangered species, etc. The Park is huge and includes botanical garden & bonsai exhibits. We like walking around. The best time to visit is during the holidays and stay after dark to see the beautiful sunset and enjoy the “Wild Holiday” events/lights. We arrived early afternoon and it wasn’t too bad parking & entering the park. The animals including the tigers, gorillas, and platypuses were active.

It is an amazing, for me it is more beautiful than the zoo.Easy to walk all around it. About (4 hours)My advice start with Savana tour from gorilla entrance, you can use the train ride to do it, you don't need to purchase the expensive ones the train ride is included in the park ticket. After that you can walk around in a circle to see the rest of the animals.A balloon ride is a must it is very beautiful and kids will enjoy it.People who work there are great and very helpful.

This is a great zoo. It's really pretty to walk around and laid out in a neat loop so you don't miss anything. In addition to the animals, they have face painting, henna, caricature artists, rides and lots of gift shops - you really could do your Christmas shopping while you're there. The food options are also really good. There was standard zoo fare that I've noticed at every zoo ice ever been to, but they also had higher quality and quite a variety of options for food. They also have a good variety of adult beverages that seemed well thought out and seasonal, so I'm guessing they have different options at different times of the year. The zoo had a very welcoming, park like feeling. There are lots of spaces to b sit and just enjoy being outside. It's somewhere I could spend a lot of time if we lived closer to it.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park is an outstanding destination for families and animal enthusiasts alike. The park offers an incredible blend of education and adventure, making it a perfect day out. The exhibits are well-designed, allowing visitors to get up close to a wide variety of animals while learning about their habitats and conservation efforts. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, always ready to share interesting facts and answer questions. The Safari experiences are a highlight, providing a unique and immersive way to see animals in more natural settings. Overall, the park is not just a place to see animals but a place to learn and appreciate the importance of wildlife conservation. Highly recommended!

Love this place, sometimes better than zoo. Lots of open and airy spaces to walk, especially for all the animals. Makes you feel like you are in another country the beautiful view of the open space in the middle for the animals. Get the pass; it's worth it, the one with parking. Otherwise, parking fee is $25 per vehicle. Lots of staff everywhere willing to help. Buy tickets in advance; wait is very long otherwise. Food is good too and lots of shady areas to relax.

Second time coming here with family. Came on a hazy Sunday that was a bit cold but it didn’t dampen our experience here at the SD safari park. Lots of good options and gift shops right upon entrance. Plenty of staff if you have any questions. I got a latte at the coffee stand they have in the beginning, decent and quick service. The exhibits are great ranging from the nocturnal duck billed platypus, young kangaroos, lions, jungle bats, wild cats, tons of birds and a huge African animal enclosure. The team ride around said enclosure is always great with lots of tips about the species they have on display. First time we came and we did the big zip line experience. Totally worth it. The views of the park from up there are incredible.

This is such a special and important place. In addition to the sheer beauty of all the plants and animals, the safari park is filled with kind and knowledgeable people. The employees and volunteers were super friendly and helpful, sharing scientific facts with me to enrich my visit. This sublime experience has made a deep impact on my psyche and I am so excited to go back with friends soon!

It’s best to get there a couple minutes before it opens as the parking lots get filled up pretty fast.I have not been here in years and having to visit again was so different. It’s hot but there’s enough shade around when you walk. The tram is free but will end up waiting in line for a while off you do get there in the afternoon.Friendly staff by the way and so much to see.

Great experience! Diverse animals, plants and visuals were thoughtfully presented and shared. Reminded me of being in Africa at the overlook lunch spot! There was a good energy that was shared from staff and attendees! People were enjoying themselves and parents and kids seemed relaxed. Gorillas were fascinating and their size was something I hadn't appreciated until this visit. Highly recommend.

Highly recommend visiting the safari park! In the summer it is much hotter than the zoo, but you can find shade to cool off in. We followed a friends advice to get there as soon as the park opened go straight to the tram to get on the first one. It was worth it, because by the time we got back there was a huge line! We spent all day here and got to see the cheetah run!

The first visit i made was in 2002! What a magnificent paradise I found on this week's visit September 25th. 2024. I was in Awe and gobsmacked as to how this place has grown! The landscape magnificent was unbelievable! The closeness to live wild animals was beyond measure. The Hot Air 🔥 Balloon was so much fun short but sweet. Take the tram for sight seeing and have lunch at one of many good restaurants there or bring your own. I love the all the shops and bought more than needed! Don't miss this hidden treasure a must see!!! ***** 🌟 rating.

We had an absolutely amazing experience at the San Diego Safari Park! One of the highlights of our visit was meeting a platypus—such a rare and special moment! We also got up close to the giraffes, and it was so much fun watching them interact with our guide, who handled it so well even when they playfully tried to nibble. The park is beautifully maintained, and the staff were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. This was definitely a visit to remember! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique and exciting adventure.

Steve & Doug - San Diego Zoo's original Odd Couple. These guys were absolutely amazing and really made the Deluxe Safari Adventure well worth it.Their deep knowledge coupled with their warm and inviting personalities brought the entire experience to the next level. Steve was so funny and charming, he was great with both the adults and kids alike. One thing to be aware of, you must buy tickets to the park in addition to the safari tickets. We didn't know that, so we actually bought a full day park pass without being able to attend the park (we go there for our 90 minute tour at 4:30 and park closed at 6). So, we viewed as a donation for all the wonderful work that the San Diego Zoo does.We took so, so many pictures, so I only included a choice few (and a couple of videos - nope won't upload - bummer!). It was wonderful, and honestly inspiring, to hear how much conservation work the San Diego zoo does, not only in revitalizing animal species, but botanical ones as well (that was a real surprise!).They said the 90 minutes would go quickly, and they weren't kidding, Before we knew it the tour was over and I was ready to go again.I would definitely spring for the deluxe tour where you can go right into the animals' sanctuary in the big safari truck, rather the the tram that takes a route separate from the animals and lacks the personal touch.I really can't wait to go again, this is something everyone should experience and was absolutely one of the greatest highlights of our trip.
Carson W — Google review
This venue is what we should be doing to preserve and continue species survival, not in the wild. The animals appear to be able to interact in a more "natural" environment. They are clearly well cared for and valued by the staff, from a layman's perspective. The grounds are well-maintained and the personnel both helpful and friendly. The experience, though, is quite pricey! I believe that cost prevents many from being able to enjoy this place. Example, for our family of 6 to just walk in the gate was $420 and to go on the extended (and wonderful!) tour inside the grounds was an additional $600.

In addition to its attractions, Sesame Place San Diego also offers an interactive water play area and private cabana rentals for guests who want to get away from it all.
Absolutely favorite summer destination when we are in San Diego visiting family. We do annual passes every year. Looking forward to new renovations. Hopefully just as fun and entertaining as original Aquatica we loved for years. So many fun ways to enjoy the water here. From lazy river to watter slides and more!!! The food is good too. Definitely recommend a visit here if near by. Fun for everyone of all ages!!!

I was so excited to take my 2 year old nephew to see Elmo. Unfortunately this theme park is not for the children of age that actually watch Sesame street. We showed up with children of 3 different ages all were too short to ride the rides. 80% of the park is water rides, yet this is not advertised as a water park. Character meets are almost impossible and honestly there isn't much to do. The food was good no complaints there, yet the drinks were flat and watered down. A bit disappointing 😞
Shadia D — Google review
If you have the means do Dine with Elmo!!! WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY!!!!! The staff goes above and beyond with each family at every table. The food was also amazing! Not only did they have options for the kids but they severed salmon and prime rib. The staff coated your food prompt so when the characters visit you don’t have food in the pictures. They do dance time where the kids can come to the front and dance. I will FOREVER treasure this memory with my son. The patience the team has with everyone was so appreciated. My only request is adults should be leaving this to children only. Seeing grown adults with no kids is very odd. Otherwise TOTALLY 💯 WORTH IT!!! The park was great as well. I appreciate the organization. In counts splash area two of the VERY small slides were closed but there’s so much to do there it didn’t seem to make a big difference. There was no open chairs and people were sitting in the areas with bushes and wood chips. Places like this only get ruined by the people that visit and don’t have manners to clean up after themselves! I pre paid for every thing on the app and it was smooth. Parking was spacious lines were long only for the slides and lazy river. I will definitely be returning!!

This place is for kids aged 2 and up. Expensive and is not worth the dollar spent. Asking for parking fees is another level of rip off. It's a little far off from the San Diego downtown area and sometime with heavy traffic you will have plan for extra time. Place generally opens from 12:00 noon and closes early by 6:00 PM. The kids may finish their rides in 2 to 3 hours max during winter. Not a whole lot of rides for teenage kids.

This is a wonderful waterpark with cute kiddie rides that adults can also enjoy. We visited on a summer Saturday and found that within 1/2 hr of opening, no chairs or lounges were available, and most tables were taken. We had fun climbing up Cookie Monster's pole. The wave beach is the best water feature for no waiting to cool off and it's 2 inches of water at the shore entrance allows you to sit and cool off and even enjoy waves (waves activated on a schedule...every half hour for 10 minutes?) Infants and seniors can enjoy this feature. After 1 p.m., all water features fill, and their are long waits for the lazy river floats, rides, water slides, and food vendors. There are no water refilling stations. I saw no water fountains. You can wait in line at food vendors and request free tap water or pay $5.95 for a 16.9 oz bottle, 2 for $10. The food is very expensive, which would be OK if it wasn't mediocre. $19.95 simple hamburger. $18.95 hot dog. $16.95 cutwater alcoholic canned drink. (Summer 2024). Parking is $39 base. We purchased a very cute Sesame Street character umbrella, which can help in the hot sun. The artificial grass is feet scorching hot on bare feet. Bring a large towel for sitting on "grass." The tiny lockers are $25, approximately 24" long x 10 " tall x 8" wide. Your bags will be checked upon entry. We had an enjoyable day.

Had an absolutely fantastic time here with our 2 year old toddler! We came here for the A Very Furry Christmas holiday event. The park is only open for six hours, and it was jam packed going between the various photo opportunities (which our toddler loved), rides, and shows. There was a lot to do and the time flew. The kiddo was glued to the shows and could not wait to meet all the characters. He was also obsessed with the rides and he wanted to ride them over and over. The parade was also great! We got to see our favorites like Elmo, Big Bird, and Cookie Monster. Lines were never long and I recommend buying tickets online first (they were on discount directly on the website). Also tons of cute Sesame Street toys and souvenirs that are hard to find anywhere else. Definitely recommended!

Took my 4 yr old daughter. It was our first time visiting. It took about an hour to get in because we waited in the line to pay for the tickets but didn’t realize that online there is a special buy an adult ticket and get a free child so once we had that we went straight in. Park was amazing! She had such a blast. The girl that did the bubble show was amazing and had such outstanding patience dealing with all those rowdy kids. My daughter loved meeting all the characters but her favorite was seeing Cookie Monster. She loved the lazy river and she was so excited seeing the castle at the water park. Unfortunately most of the slides were closed on the kids part of the water area so she was pretty bummed but she still enjoyed it. She loved the roller coaster even though it was only a whole 15 second ride 😂.. the food I’d say was pretty average but super expensive for the small portions and the wait times were extreme. I’d recommend eating before and after the park if you want to avoid this. I recommend taking a stroller or a wagon especially with any small kids or you can just pay $25+ for a small locker. Also definitely recommend taking a waterproof phone holder because your phone and stuff will definitely get wet if not. They sell them inside but for like 10x the price as Walmart or target. We got to ride about 90% of the rides while there and even with a little wait time on each ride, we were able to different ones multiple times! My daughter is about 40” tall and you have to be 48” or taller for some things. Overall great time at the park and I definitely recommend it. She constantly reminds me she wants to go back for her birthday next year too 👌🏻😆

It is a cute place. The staff is about 25% good and 75% absolutely replaceable or need major retraining. The rudeness and lack of knowledge is astonishing.Plus ... never rely on the schedule posted online because they will close earlier if they feel like it.

A bit pricey but we had a lot of fun. $32 for parking $25 for a locker and $13 for dippin dots. The wave pool closed an hour early. It was not that busy going on a Monday.

Not as much interactive play as I thought there would be, but still a great experience overall. Lots of great rides for all ages (if they're open). I'd skip paying for the VIP parking cause it's small anyway. Don't expect too many shows but plenty of photo ops

Such a fun place for the kiddos! Lots for them to do, and they supply vests there so no need to bring your own. The food is pricey, so maybe plan ahead and bring your own snacks.

It's a great place for kids. The regular price of $94.99 a person is way overpriced it's too small of an area. The price is ridiculous for what you get at the park.

We thought we were gonna be here only a few hours, we stayed all day almost from open to close. We had a blast, adults and children alike. We came on a weekday which I heard is entirely different than the weekend when it's packed. We packed lots and lost of snacks and found shade by the wave pool. Two 5 year olds and a 2 year old hung in there like champs. We might even get season passes it was so much fun

Great amusement park for young kids! There were no lines to ride the rides when we went on a weekday in July. Our 2 year old probably had the best time of her life so far dancing with Elmo at Dine with Elmo and friends experience. There was plenty to do with 2 year old and 6 year old wwithout feel pressure or rushed to do it all. We all had an amazing time, and already recommended it to friends.

Quick and convenient hike! I want to say "easy," but that's relative, and judging from the number of helicopter rescues here, clearly it's not easy for everyone! Skip the trail from Golfcrest. Try the one from Barker Way or even the north end of Lake Murray Blvd to avoid the crowds.

Excellent cardio with a good view of the city and a real hike right on the edge of the city. As a Midwesterner who is newly moved here, mountains are a novelty and I love seeing them where I live. After hearing about the 5 Peak Challenge at Mission Trails Regional Park, I knew this was the challenge I needed since races in person are canceled for the time being. The parking lot filled up quickly as noted but I easily parked on the road outside the lot. The path to the summit was busy for 8am, but everyone was moving at a easy pace and enjoying the gorgeous weather. There are parts of the path where you have to climb over rocks but overall it isn’t too bad. For the websites that said this is a great hike for kids, I say, what age, because this was a killer workout for me but to be fair, I come from straight flat land! Beautiful views at the peak. Bring water and a hat, the sun was beating down early in the morning.

The best place for quick but really good hiking. Moderate to hard - depends on people, I will say a moderate one. It’s always busy hike and easy to park in the road. You will see 360 degrees views all the way up-to north and downtown on west and beautiful hill stations in north and south. Please bring water. Been to this hike more than 20 times but still loving it. Beautiful sunset view in pacific.

The Cowles Mountain hike consists of switch backs all the way to the top. The trail is moderately difficult with some loose rocks and dirt. Pretty manageable for the average person. I’d recommend getting on this trail early or late in the afternoon. During busy times this trail is worse than the line for a ride at Disneyland and why it gets three stars. You are pretty exposed to the sun and wind with no available shade.Cowles Mountain (/koʊlz/, [kaʊlz]; properly KOHLZ, commonly KOWLZ) is a prominent mountain located in the San Carlos neighborhood, within the City of San Diego, San Diego County, California. The 1,593-foot (486 m) summit is the highest point of the city of San Diego. The mountain is named after George A. Cowles, an 1870s-80s rancher and early businessperson in southwestern San Diego County. The main trail to the summit is a popular hiking destination taking hundreds of people per day to a 360-degree panorama of San Diego County. The hike to the top is 1.5 miles (2.4 km) long and an elevation change of about 950 feet (290 m). This trail is on the corner of Golfcrest Drive and Navajo Road. A much-less-used but maintained trail begins near the intersection of Boulder Lake Avenue and Barker way. This trail meets the main trail near the summit. On March 25, 2013 the trails of Cowles were closed for maintenance. The trails were reopened in May 2013 after several improvements to water drainage and rock steps.

Really fun. Great views. Started going more often on my days off because the gyms were closed. Absolutely go early in the morning or at sunset otherwise theres many many people. Lots of crowds none in masks. Hike itself is rough if you rarely hike but many good places to stop and rest. I prefer going at sunset and night hiking. :^) Pre-covid going later there would be space in the parking lot. Potentially that will return in the future. :^)

Great hike! It can be crowded on the weekends, but I definitely recommend you go onto Pyle's Peak. There's a lot less be people on that trail. There are beautiful views and very dog friendly!
Morgan G — Google review
Do not go in the middle of the day, by 11 am the trails are packed with people. This is a morning or evening hike. This is not easy. While it is covered in bushes and trees on the way up it still leaves little as far as shade. Bring hats, sunscreen, shade of some sort and tons of water. Go slow if you’re a beginner. If you are taking the service road route make sure you have shoes with good tread…skate shoes will have you sliding off the mountain for sure. And enjoy the view when you get to the top.

Bernardo Winery is a long-standing winemaking complex in landscaped gardens with a tasting area, restaurants & art shows. The winery has been operating for over 130 years and grows Italian, Spanish and French varietals. They make wine in a collection of historic buildings and have a restaurant on site that opens up onto a patio right in the vineyards.
What a joyful and wonderful place to visit! It’s like a vineyard wonderland village. You can taste wines, you can eat foods and you can shop around. The wine here is very tasty, we tried their only sparkling wine here which I enjoyed it very much. It’s very crisp, light, and dry. The foods here are decent too, I loved their pizza. The decorations and atmosphere here are so good, I’ll bring my family and friends back here to taste wines and wander around.

We love the Bernardo Winery! It is one of our favorite places to relax for brunch or an early dinner. The ambience is unmatched. We’ve long since grown out of our college bar/party phase, so a visit here this is a fantastic way to decompress after a long week or to bring family and friends when they come into town. The food is excellent! The portion size for the fries is fantastic. I love to get a salad plus a side of fries to share with whoever I’m with, and maybe a pizza. The wine pours for the tastings are generous. The only thing I’ve ordered and not been crazy about was the bruschetta because it had olives and pistachio which I wasn’t a huge fan of.The best part about our visits to the Bernardo winery are walking around the shops after. It is incredibly romantic too! Especially during sunset. At night, there are outdoor heaters that make it very cozy too. If I could leave 10 stars I would!

This place is incredible. We had an office party here. We were having aome fun competition of the Wine formulation. Although, I don't drink but I had so much fun playing game. Wine smells great! Such a nice food and Staff. I would highly recommend this place foe the group event.

Bernardo Winery is fantastic! I highly recommend visiting on a Sunday afternoon. The food is excellent; we enjoyed the salads, pizza, and fries. The winery is spacious, allowing you to stroll around and explore the unique buildings and vineyards. The atmosphere is charming, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing day out. Don't miss the chance to taste their wines and take in the beautiful surroundings. This place truly offers a delightful experience.

On Friday the winery comes alive! Farmers Market, although small, with local vendors with fruits, veggies, bread, gorgeous Italian table clothes, jewelries, and a fine restaurant , and of course delicious wines!

I really like this place and its my Mothers favorite winery. Can be busy sometimes and difficult to get a table. But last time I visited their was plenty places to sit. Their ROSÈ Sangria is delicious. My sister loves the spaghetti meatballs with a passion. I like getting their boards and a flight of white wines. Also cool place to look at. A lot of history for those history buffs, beautiful gardens, and the rustic vibe is great..!

We had our wedding here a few days ago, and it was the most amazing experience. Everything exceeded our expectations, from the food to the natural greenery/scenery. So many of our friends and family told us this was one of their favorite weddings they’ve attended. The site event planner Terry did a wonderful job of coordinating everything - having our dressing rooms prepared with snacks and drinks, ensuring the timeline flowed, and checking on us both. She even handled someone who wandered into our wedding uninvited.

Visited this Diamond in the rough recently for a daytime driving event to celebrate a birthday. This place is very easy to find and is not far from the freeway exit. There is ample parking that is separated between a few lots on property. You will pass a few boutique shops as you drive in. Once you park and head in you feel like you’ve traveled back to a fancy western town. Quaint wooden buildings line small streets. They very Froom boutique clothing retailers, a sweet shop and a coffee roaster. There is a full restaurant on site and the tasting room is quite large. Lots of outside and inside seating at the tasting room. Glasses of most wines here are about $15, they have tasting flights which are a good deal and they give you discounts on take home bottles of the wines. Honestly the red sangria they serve in the tasting room is pretty amazing. Also you can share carafes of it which I highly recommend. The coffee shop and the sweet shop are fantastic. We didn’t get a chance to try the restaurant but everything looked great. We will be back for sure

Easily our favorite stop on our San Diego trip (about 30 min from SD). Cute little respite from the city that has a small vineyard, little shops, gelato shop, amazing brick oven pizza, and all the wines we had were super tasty!

My boyfriend and I came here on vacation from Canada, and were super impressed with the character of the winery. It’s beautiful and welcoming, with tons of seating and little shops. We visited the tasting room, and both employees working were kind, knowledgeable and welcoming, particularly Michelle. The wine was delicious, and since we aren’t wine experts we received lots of guidance about what to expect from each wine in our tasting.I write this as I sit at the kitchen waiting for fresh pizza in the gorgeous California sunshine, I reflect on how wonderful this establishment is and how wonderful of an experience that was provided by all the staff, and strongly recommend this as a stop to anyone who enjoys a class of wine and an eclectic market. Absolutely stunning!

We had the most lovely afternoon lunch/early dinner. The sangria is delicious. We had the pesto pasta, a charcuterie board, and a salad.

My goodness, what a wonderful little collection of shopping, wine, and amazing food. Friendly staff in the tasting room and the restaurant make dining a pleasure. The wood fired pizza both smells and tastes delicious. The charcuterie board was to notch. Insider tip. Stop by the tasting room to select your wine before heading to eat. They have good discounts on their wine as well.

I visited with my husband for the first time on Sunday, and I will be going back very soon! The vineyard grounds are beautiful and historic. The atmosphere, music, decorations, everything was a historic farmhouse style that really blew me away. Along with your standard wine tasting you can get at any winery, Bernardo Winery also has food, beer, a museum, a clothing shop, candles, gelato, sweets, a coffee shop, olive oil, vinegar, pottery... It almost seems endless! If you're lucky you'll even be visited by the cats that live on the property! This would also be an absolutely beautiful wedding or party venue.

Wow! this place is good for with families and with friends.Syrah(Cab.) ,Tramonto (white wine), Sangria, and sangrai are good to taste. You can buy wines from the tasting room, and buy foods from the kitchen.

Michelle (who happily self-proclaimed as a "Karen") kicked three families out of the winery because "children are no longer allowed"My friends and I got to the winery and it was chilly outside. We saw two women leave their table (next to the only heater) and we moved over and patiently waited for staff to be available to clear the table. She came out and stated "great, you just sat yourself at the table (which is open seating) before staff cleaned it, cool" We had already shared with the waitress that there was absolutely no rush in cleaning and that we had moved over to be next to the heat. All night she kept coming to our table only (excluding any other families there that had children running around) to tell us the children need to be seated at all times. She eventually grabbed one of her poor workers and forced him to come tell us to leave. She came out smiling and you could tell uncomfortable he was. He even told us that it wasn't his choice and that she was the general manager and was making him. As someone who is a manager, I've never made my staff do my dirty work. She then went on to tell us she doesn't have kids and never wants them and offered a disgusted look to ours. She smiled and smiled as we talked to the manager. I asked for her name and she said "Michelle, actually it's Karen, I'm a Karen".She had it in for our group the minute we arrived and it was so blatantly obvious that other customers made comments about it in small talk with our group. We have come many times with our families and never had an issue, until meeting her. She was so unpleasant and smirked the entire time while forcing her employee to do the job she was hired to do. The worst kind of incompetent manager that takes the credit without doing any of the work.Discrimination on the basis of parental status happens where a person is treated less favourably because of their parental status than someone without the same parental status in similar circumstances. There are no signs or warnings at this establishment of a kid free policy. In fact, she walked past several kids on the way to us. She was hovering around us all night and made it so uncomfortable that other people noticed. I supposed if that's the kind of person this winery wants representing their name and their brand then they've won the lottery. It's so unfortunate that she would stand there and smile and keep walking back and being petty. I've never seen a person with such poor management skills, I almost wonder if this is an instance of nepotism or a pity hire. I hope she can be properly trained, I'm sure the winery values family people and this is a person who openly boasted about never wanting kids.

Pro: close to residential areas; easy to access . Beautiful and artsy place to have coffee or stroll around. Good place to take some photos.Con: food quality not so good. I didn’t expect delicious foods there but rotten salad is too much.

What a beautifully peaceful setting and old world Europe meets rustic country vibes! The wine is lovely and the service is even better! Cecily helped me out today and made recommendations based on my taste and they were all excellent. Plus you're surrounded by shops, plants, and a fountain all in this courtyard. Highly recommend!

I went to this winery for a wedding so there were additional flowers and decor everywhere but the place itself had a nice rustic farm style that made all the white flowers more beautiful. Greenery everywhere and a small fountain, this place was gorgeous yet simple. The food was delicious as well and we had some good wine. You can never go wrong with an Italian menu. Definitely a beautiful place to have an intimate wedding. They had a spacious bride and groom suite and umbrellas for each table to block that San Diego sun. I'd recommend it as an event venue.

Bodies of Water
Lake Murray is a man-made reservoir that can be found within Mission Trails Regional Park, situated between San Diego and the nearby communities of La Mesa and Santee. The lake was formed by a 19th-century dam and offers activities such as hiking, kayaking, angling, picnicking, bicycling, jogging, rollerblading and walking. It is also home to herons and rare blackbirds.
Beautiful lake. Crystal clear water. I came to spend the day at Lake Murray after hearing about all the amazing species of fish they have here. From Florida Bass to rainbow trout, sunfish, and catfish. They had pretty much a target species for everyone.Unfortunately I didn’t have any luck with those bass but my friends pulled quite a few nice size trout on the golden shiners. The boats are in pretty good shape. Not the most comfortable but far better than most other rental boats. The bait shop is pretty nice also. They have live bait (shiners, worms, etc) They’ve got plenty of your “go to” lures and soft baits. Bottom line they had everything needed so one wouldn’t have to stop at a tackle shop prior to going.Overall it was a beautiful day with gorgeous views. The wildlife was really nice! Especially the ducks.Although I didn’t catch anything, the memory was far worth the trip. I’ll definitely be back. Next time for those trout 🤣

WOW I love the lakeAll of the lakes hereMan created and Natural bodies of water here on the coast are my life. I love the mountains made by them and all the other flows of rain and dew. Thank you for keeping it nice and clean and fun to be there. I love the birds and we all love fishing even though we can't seem to catch many or at all compared to the guy on the left closer to the sand catching many with meal worms moving like crazy on his hook in shallow waters from the dock. We love the hike of 6 miles to and from the front and back to the front in reverse after 3 mile touch down near the water fence. I like the springtime if you are not allergic with me as the flowers are awesome opossums and there are definitely those and squirrels, ducks, trees, boats for rent, fishing things/bait and hooks with cutters or strings and things... $LICENSE FOR FISHING HERE and yes daily or other with a drop station if you make your own print outs just in case the pages were taken already to drop when fishing station is closed. I am amazed at the morning crews that seem to be of mid to senior age and killing the track with sweat as they seem to all go the whole way. I end usually at the hump or dip in the road near the curve if I want a short walk and when I hit that shaded turn I love it so much I turn around to air conditioned car (when air con worked in my car hehe) Bring water, pet, sweater, wear layers and maybe rent a boat or foot paddle boat for funsies or a bike at the rental spot there at the lake or grab your food and picnic basket with your favorite tunes or friend and starbucks or many shops in the La Mesa Village even DZ akins not so far... Dennys if it's there still and Ihop on your way from freeways near Wendys or the Sprouts and Vons live on the way as well as the others of course and our Albertsons. Enjoy! Come to Chollas Lake or see if they still let fishing on the other side of Sweetwater! License please! See you there! Woof Woof friendly... parrots please! Gorgeous ambiance mornings and evenings on days work week or during traffic to beat the boredom of sitting in the car longer than needed. Break here or bring home phone office to make your calls in peace of nature preserves here in Sunny Golden State of California. I'm a brat but I love nature and sell land! Buy a home and one for me! I can help find some for you if you are an out of towner and trust me we will looooook and find what you like! Hope you are ready to see the COAST and LAKE MURRAY is a hit- I lived near the village and loved the nightlife there too. Sounds like a day trip with Farmers market in town before or after on Th???Lady CA C.

I like that the park is free. Although this could be a bit of a downer as many of the people who come here without paying any fees abuse the privilege of the great outdoors with trash being left behind and people going in the water to disturb wildlife.

Great place to walk your dog although beware you should be 50 ft. away from the water if you're walking your pup. The Las Americas Premium Outlets, which is located in San Ysidro, offers shoppers a wide variety of brand name stores at discounted prices. It is one of the largest outlet malls in Southern California, and with 125 stores, it has something for everyone.
I wanted to get as close as possible to the border and San Ysidro is the closest you will get so me and the kids visited Las Americas Premium Outlets and ate at Achiote Mexican restaurant. There are so many stores, food, and snack shacks to choose from. Definitely ended up getting tired from walking for a few hours. Time well spent. There are restrooms throughout the whole place. This place has a vibe. Every single store I visited I was welcomed in by employees and they were so helpful answering any questions. You can tell they probably go across every day to come work here. Their nice personality is just something different. So nice. It gets really busy so come right before they open to get a parking spot. I arrived at 1130am on a Sunday and got lucky to get a spot right away. All the stores are kept cleaned and organized. They are not run down. Everything looks new. The food at Achiote did not disappoint either. Cool to see the border, the Mexican flag and the famous TJ arch from close by.

Typical outlet mall. Watch out for the carnies selling junk in the in between. I was buying some sneaker cleaner and the guy raised the price $5 at checkout and then literally, verbally asked me for a tip. It stinks like sewage if Tijuana's waste treatment plant is going. My favorite mall for shopping in San Diego. Large amount of stores that include the common brands. Prices are great...yes it's an outlet mall and the merchandise is at least a year old. But, unlike the other malls in SD, it's really hard to leave here without buying something...usually from multiple stores.

If you're looking for branded and luxury products, it's time to shop at the Premier Outlet near Mexico. I miss this place mostly if I invited the people they never tried yet. Next time I should capture again! Remember it is really not as cheaper sometime I prefer to buy with my redeems or cash back for my credit cards rather than here tbh.

Great place for a beer and food. With covid precautions they had a QR code to order food and beer, which once this is all over I hope they keep because you don’t have to wait for your server to come by to order anything. Even with that, there was still servers periodically coming to check on us, including one dude who kept asking if we wanted tasters and even brought us some with asking (awesome). There was kids running around like it was a park, which it’s not, even though it looks like park and that was annoying, but that’s not the restaurant’s fault. Plus their swag section is dangerous, either be ready to plop down some coin or walk through there with a blindfold on.

I can see what the hype is all about...As far as ambiance and total experience, this is hands down the best brewery I've been to...This truly is a "Beer Garden" It's worth the drive to come out to Escondido and enjoy a meal. The experience here is something else, it's different than stopping by a taproom or a brewery that serves Stone. The Garden is lovely and scenic place to hangout. You can grab a beer from the bar and hang out at the Garden if you don't wish to eat here or even while you wait for your table. I recommend making a reservation for a meal; lunch or dinner...this place fills up fast and the wait can be long. The restaurant is very dog friendly, I saw numerous staff members come to the tables with treats for canine patrons. The Foodie Stuff:~ STONE BAVARIAN PRETZEL BURGER - 4/5Solid tasty Burger. While the portions aren't the most generous, you can taste the quality behind it. I ordered a Salad on the side, the dressing was amazing.~ STONE MAC N CHEESE - 4/5Just a solid Mac N Cheese dish. Small, but hearty. Make sure to eat it when warm...not the same when it's cold.~ SHITAKE GARLIC NOODLES - 3/5This dish sounded so good on paper...unfortunately it was OK. I thought the first bite was brilliant, but after a few more it was too sweet. The sauce overpowered everything and I couldn't taste the Garlic or the Mushrooms.I'll definitely make the effort to come out here again I also hope they stay Independent forever...

What a place! Great food and drink! It has great spaces inside and out. The beer garden is incredible. I was surprised with how delicious the menu was. The beer is 2nd to none. I had high hopes for this brewery, and it did not disappoint ! It's definitely a must visit.

This is a really nice beer garden!! Hidden gem 💎 ✨️The seating area inside the garden in the middle is the best! Highly recommend reservation if you would like to get a good seating spot.Their customer service is excellent. Their food is delicious, fresh ingredients, and very tasty. Their beer flight is plenty, and you get to taste most of their delicious beers.Highly recommend. They also have another location in San Diego downtown.

Fantastic beer and food, what more would you ask for? The tap room and store is amazing where you can grab a 22oz bomber all the way to a growler. The beer is fresh and the barkeep is knowledgeable. Also, if you want a bite to eat or just stroll through a scenic trail with a beer in hand, then this is the place you’ll fancy. Enjoy! 🍺

Such an awesome atmosphere. Inside and outside looked so awesome. Lots of space. Loved all the decor and the layout. Food and beer were good. Ordered the Stone Violetta iris milkshake and Double Crunch Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich. The fried chicken had the perfect crispness and the bun was so soft. My drink of choice was good and the hint of vanilla in it was perfect. Also got the pineapple upside down cake for dessert which was ok. Not a lot of parking but we came when they first opened on a Friday. As we were leaving it started to get busy. So come early!

Great food and a very deverse alcohol selection (beer, mixed, and wine). The best garden area. You'll forget you're in the city it's so large and tropical. A must visit if you are in the area. Kid and dog friendly.

What a nice place to have a brew and a bite! It was worth the drive up the hill for sure. I forgot to take pictures of our food, but we had tacos and they were delicious!

An absolute great vibe here!! My brother and I sat at the bar inside and had amazing service all around. Conor was very welcoming and pick amazing beers for my brother's flight. Adam was very attentive and got us water, and had the extra touch by asking if we wanted lemon in the water and if we wanted a straw. Sampson delivered the food that we ordered. My brother got the Bavarian Pretzel burger (I forgot the actual name) it came with pickles and he hates them. For this instance he said it absolutely completed the whole taste of the burger. I ordered the Korean Fried Chicken and I was absolutely blown away.If it weren't for the fact I had to leave to work I definitely would've spent more time here. Absolutely coming back for a more in depth experience.

This was my second experience at Stone Brewing and first time at this location….I cannot imagine a nicer Stone Brewing location than this one. This restaurant appears to be in a warehouse and industrial office complex. Walking in from the parking lot, you walk in through a kind of cave area with plants overhead. The restaurant is pretty large inside with main level and second floor dining and a large bar area. There is a huge outdoor seating area with umbrellas and trees all around on three or four terraced levels to sit. There is a good sized koi fish pond beneath a statue of a gargoyle with a fire pit feature above. There is even a lower level pond or stream with tables/chairs and Adirondack chairs to sit at. Nice lights throughout the trees makes fir a beautiful evening dining experience. The restaurant also features a large gift shop where you can purchase t-shirts, accessories and bottled/canned beer to take away.We were seated outside along the wall of glass separating the indoor and outdoor seating areas. We ordered Stone Mac n cheese ($9) as an appetizer, HULI HULI CHICKEN - BBQ half chicken, Hawaiian-style teriyaki sauce served with traditional macaroni salad and white rice ($22) and NORI CRUSTED SEARED AHI TUNA SALAD- Togarashi-spiced ahi, edamame, ginger, pickled cucumber, puffed umami rice, shredded cabbage, spring mix, wasabi mayo, seaweed salad, miso dressing, soy glaze ($17).The Huli Huli chicken had a great taste but the chicken was a bit in the dry side. The macaroni salad was a good basic macaroni salad we all know. The Tuna salad comes with two dressings and it’s advisable to order them both on the side. One of them is a bit spicy and that spice may build. The salad is served in a huge bowl and really is enough to share.Service at this restaurant was pretty slow and we waited longer than expected for our meal…however there servers were nice and helpful when we had questions. We tried beers we had not tried before and our choices were much better than our first Stone Brewing experience.

The ambience is charming and gives off a glamping vibe. The restaurant and accompanying store are spacious and quite clean. I wish I could give this place another star, but my experience left a few things to be desired. My party of 6 met here for a team lunch, and we were seated outside on the sunny patio despite it being 90°F. While the accommodating staff did provide us with a couple of umbrellas to shade us, they did not provide full coverage, so by the end of our lunch, I was fully exposed to the sun and uncomfortable. The menu items seemed to be hit or miss. There is a wide variety of options, so you can essentially decide what you’re craving in advance of reading the menu and then just pick and point. We ordered the brussel sprouts, which I was eager to try, since it’s one of my favorite appetizers, but they tasted chalky, not crispy, and lacked much flavor. The SoCal Superfood salad was a definite improvement, and I really enjoyed it with the addition of grilled chicken. I asked for the dressing to be served on the side and was glad I did because it was too salty/sour for my preference. A couple of my team members ordered the Fruity Goat and Katsu Chicken salads and seemed to like them as well.I like how this restaurant offers “something for everyone” and would be down to return again to try more of their menu, but I would request to sit inside next time or at least away from the sun.

We took their 4pm brewery tour on a Sunday afternoon and learned a lot about their new making process and the company itself. The tour starts in their little gift shop where you will pay for your tour. It's $15/person with tastings. Or $5/person for those who won't be doing the tastings. We got to do tastings of the beer through the process. It was very interesting! It is also very noisy in the facility. They do give you ear plugs so grab one just in case. The tour takes about an hour and ends back where we started. With a farewell toast, you are gifted a small souvenir cup filled with one of their beers on tap.We made dinner reservations for after the tour in advance. We told the hostess at the bistro before we checked into our tour that we will be on the tour in case we run over. Which we did but the great hostess had our table ready when we finished up our brewery tour.

Bottom line: Stone Brewing Escondido is worth the trip, and there is nothing else like it in San Diego County. Excellent food, excellent drinks, excellent atmosphere. If you're in town as a tourist, on a business trip, or a local visiting is worth your time. The entire property is great to walk around. There is a grove below the restaurant that is amazing to go walk around and find a place to hang out with a beer. You can hear the frogs in the evening. It's a wonderful place to feel connected to nature in a very industrial area. There is outdoor seating, indoor seating, outdoor bars, indoor bars, and party venues for hosting events. It's a great place to bring a whole family or have dinner with lots of friends. Also, it's a great place for date night. The bar area is open seating. There are tables that can accommodate up to 4 and a large bar top area. The main dining area is by reservation or walk up availability. When you sit down in the restaurant, you can order on your phone or from a waiter as needed. The staff is always attentive and helpful. There are more menu options on their on line menu than the printed one.The beer taps rotate often. It's great if you love variety, they always seem to have their staple beers on tap, like Buenavesa, etc. If you really like one of their rotating taps, I suggest getting a crowler sine it will not be there the next week, but will return at some point in the future. Surprisingly, they have not lost the craft beer feel and quality. This location has TONS of parking. Wheelchair accessible parking and entrance right up front, as well. The regular parking up front is limited. But just north of the building, there is a huge parking lot. However, it really can be busy.

I went here after a round of golf and had to take my wife back to enjoy the garden. We took the tour which was worth it, just remember to take your walking shoes. Our tour guide was great and very informative. Grab dinner here and grab your beer and check out the garden. You can find a spot next to the waterfall with wooden chairs. Food is a bit pricey for bar food but worth it as it is delicious.

A beautiful place for enjoying a beautiful green garden restaurant while drinking beer. Has indoor and outdoor dining spaces and also options for your event and party. I tried tuna salad which is okay but could be better. The ambiance and design were more interesting than the food.

My friend and I went to Stone Brewing World and loved it! It is gigantic and has both indoor and outdoor seating. I would recommend making a reservation because it can get a little busy around dinner time.We both ordered the steak frites and hard cider. The steak melts in your mouth and the parmesan fries are awesome, I would highly recommend. There is a neat gift shop as well. Stone Brewing World has something for everyone! A lovely night out and I would return

If you’ve read some of the comments you already know the service is slow and lacking so don’t complain about it. The atmosphere, beer and facility are top notch. The food needed salt and wasn’t very flavorful. I had the wagyu burger and my wife the fish and chips. It was my birthday so they hooked us up with a free dessert and I chose the apple cobbler. Everything was just ok. I think someone can have a great experience here and would recommend giving it a try.

We visited this beautiful brewery for beers and dinner after arriving in Escondido. We got a table outside and the gardens were amazing! Fire pits and heaters kept us cozy as we enjoyed several selections of their excellent beers. Our waiter was very attentive and even brought us some samplers (on the house). I had the stout and Red Ale and they were both excellent. We had the Italian meatball appetizer and that was perfect for the three of us and really delicious! The fish and chips dinner was delicious and filling! Good sized portions and well prepared. My wife had the Magyu Luxe burger and loved it. It was cooked perfectly. My daughter really enjoyed the crispy fish sandwich as well.I highly recommend this place for a relaxing, casual, and beautiful dining experience.

Beautiful space inside and out with ample indoor and outdoor seating. We came for the brewery tour and stayed for dinner. Our tour guide was excellent and engaging, leaving ample room for questions. We had a reservation afterward and we seated with minimal waiting. Despite being outdoors on a colder evening, enough heating lamps to keep our group warm.A few tips on food:tacos are greatthe flights are more like 4 half pours . Be careful

I went to this brewery for the first time some 10 years ago and recently visited it again. It is a really amazing place to spend time with friends and family and have great food. I do not drink but have heard that their beer collection is awesome. The place is huge and they have a great number of tables. The backyard is an open space with a small pond with fishes and some open areas to hang out.We went there a couple of weekends ago and had burgers, Mac n cheese, bread and salad. All dishes were perfectly made. No complaints whatsoever. Will surely visit again.

Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park is a sprawling, 27-acre park located in Carlsbad, California that is home to peacocks, birds of paradise, and more. The park spans over years of Leo Carrillo's legacy as a rancher and actor, and is now open to the public for day trips and relaxation.
Always enjoyed our visit here at the ranch! We started visiting in 2020 when the pandemic started. The ranch is spacious and open. This provides ample of distance between our family and others. There are many benches and tables for people to have a picnic and kids to run around. It was fun and educational to walk around and see the architecture of the houses. The best time to visit is March to June. One can hear and see wild peacocks in the ranch. Local residents may not like to hear them because the peacocks are really loud during mating season but it is a joy to many to see the beautiful birds. Did I say that these are wild birds? Please don’t feed the birds and respect their space!!!

This place is such a gem. It takes you back in time. The grounds are beautifully kept and it is so nice to walk around and explore the ranch. It is a great place to take the kids, go with friends, or even walk around the grounds on your own. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. I highly recommend a visit here.

Wow! So much history. The architecture and landscaping is exquisite 👌. They even have orange, lemon, and lime trees. The aroma fills the air! Peacocks are walking around free. This place was everything!!! I got to see where actor extrodonaire Clarke Gable laid his head. Just wonderful!

Do not miss this beautiful, well preserved ranch! You could easily spend 2+ hours here. Very popular for class field trips. Since there is a dirt parking lot (with at least 4 handicap spaces) they do close after heavy rains. Best to call ahead to see if they are open. Numerous clean, modern restrooms. Paths for wheelchairs are clearly marked. Areas for picnics are available to reserve, too. There are some elevation changes but manageable for most. Don't miss!

This park exceeds my expectations. It's free admission and you can even join the free guided tours on Sat and Sun at 10 AM and 1 PM. It's unfortunate that we didn't see the peacocks when we visited in the early afternoon, but we still had so much fun roaming around and taking pictures.

We like this place. It's not a super long visit, bit the grounds are fun and there are plenty unique things to explore and see. Lots of neat plants, buildings, and some light walking. The attendants are friendly. Short video to familiarize yourself with what it was about. Might be a nice place to visit with a picnic :)

This is a GEM of Carlsbad history! Very cool! Its a leisurely walk for the most part. Building are spread apart so theres a bit of a walk to see everything. No dogs. Visitors center staff were friendly and informative! We didnt go durring tour times so I cant review on that. Theres (I believe free) historical and botanical tours available. We intend to go back for those. Recommended!

A very cute historical park that is not too far from San Diego and along the drive. If you are driving from Los Angeles. The park does not really feature any animals, they do have a fake replica of a horse and some imagery of peacocks so I think there was maybe more animals at times? It looks like it would be a beautiful venue and would be really amazing! The historical aspect is really cool and they do a really amazing job! Go check it out!

Well the park was quite a disappointment for us.There are actually hardly any historical things to see here and the buildings were closed except for 2-3 of them. There was also a wedding here today and a large part of it was completely closed.Plus, parking is free for once.Oh another plus for American standards, the toilets were extremely clean.

Was little hesitant to go but saw the way the ranches were in the '50s. I had to ask but then I had to Google it so that you could run one cow forever 15 to 18 acres of unirrigated land. The staff was great and friendly.

Nice, quiet, historical area to visit. Tons of interesting historical information throughout the park.

I didn't see a single peacock here. This place is on tightly-packed dirt, so your shoes and the bottom of your pants will get dirty. You can see the historic home of the original owner, but sadly, you cannot go inside as they are locked and closed. You only see them from the outside. There is nothing to do here other than walk under the sun (hardly any shade), and that's it. They do have nice, clean bathrooms. I wouldn't recommend this place. Definitely not a fun place for kids, either, in my opinion. You can walk through this whole place in 15 minutes. The best part, for me, was seeing the plants.
Alexandra — Google review
Our children attended the daycare right above the park nearly 2 decades ago. We used to come here all the time and had picked peacock feathers from the ground (even allowed to keep a couple). The park was full of (easily 15 - 20) peacocks at that time, often with their train standing up and rattling. Even saw some Albino ones. And sometimes they went up the hill to visit the daycare as well. Though nowadays, while the park is still nice, probably nicer now with more work done, but the peacocks are hard to find - we heard the honk/kraa/meow a couple of times, perhaps from the same peacock. Kind of sad to see the vanishing of the lovely creatures the park once to have plenty of.

The Craftsmanship Museum showcases miniature models of engines, buildings, and vehicles made from metal and wood. The museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and displaying wood and metal crafts.
This is a small gem! It took us about an hour and a half to see it all but there is amazing Craftmanship to see. The gentlemen at the front shared their love of crafts by showing us and telling us about some of the exhibits. Bring some cash if you can since there is no admission charged but there is a box for cash donations.

This museum is well worth visiting. There is no admission charge. They just asked for a donation from you. Everything is Handcrafted to the smallest detail. They have A miniature car and it actually will run if you put fuel in it. All the individual components were handmade. Don't miss this museum if you are in the area.

Incredible collection of some of the finest miniature homes, aircraft, ships, engines, etc. anywhere in the world! Plan on spending a couple of hours here. The docents are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They do have demonstrations periodically. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here and plan to return in the future. A great visit for ALL ages. A small gift shop is on site, too. Free to visit but they do appreciate donations. Do yourself and your budding engineer a huge favor by stopping here. Plenty of parking as well as handicap friendly.

If we could give them 10 stars, we would. A jaw-dropping museum of astonishing builds. The passion and artistry are hard to comprehend, as we don't have any of this skill or capability, and so we greatly admired all that was there. The docents are friendly, informative, talented, and this was the highlight of our Carlsbad trip. They should charge for entry, as we could have spent delightful hours in there, admiring all the miniatures, and seeing them function. A tiny car which ACTUALLY has a gas engine in it??? HOLY COW! Wish we lived closer so we could go back again, and we have a ton of family and friends back in MI/MN who would love to visit this place. Thank you for existing, and for sharing this delight with the public! :)

Excellent place to visit for anybody who has even a slight interest in engineering in engineering and machining. The volunteers are excellent and very well informed. Large display of functioning scale models of cars, motors, engines, boats, planes, trains, etc. The quality of craftsmanship and the pride that goes into the work is clearly very evident. All the best!

This place is a must visit! The amount of creativity is mind blowing. This place is truly incredible. The hand made items here are hard to describe. Real working motors at 1/6th size are amazing! The doll houses and everything here is all worth the time spent here. Please be prepared to spend at least a couple of hours. You will be assisted by the knowledgeable employees who tell you the stories of what is displayed. The minitures of several different items on display all have interesting stories and even more interesting are the makers behind the scenes. If in the area, this is a nice and interesting museum to check out. It's quite small (literally and figuratively), but there are lots of interesting things. I enjoyed the musical devices, doll houses, matchstick buildings, firearms, and cars. If you really like engines there were many displays. Things go in rotation so in a few months there may be something new.
